I wouldn't know . . .

Sadly for you, I'm very much alive
-
I wouldn't be seen DEAD in either of those stores however media reports confirm people are no longer ashamed to visit, the polar opposite is true and that it seems to have become a badge of honour to see how cheap you can buy something.
We shop at asda and bill is £95-120 a week.
Could we get it cheaper elsewhere? Probably. Can I be arsed, no. They bring it round each week and quite happy with the service.

I wasn't aware it was compulsory to use them.
Suppose you could go to spar for a proper doing over
-
Didn't say I thought I was white middle class did I?
-
but if they had work they woudnt have to go to food banks,so its either to each according to his need or each according to his contribution both are fundamentals of a socialist society tho what if your contribution was going to the work shy for instance
I believed in a previous life that those in work would never be so desparate but I'm not so sure that is always the case. You are right my donation may go to the work shy but equally it might go to
someone who is white middle class with a full time job. I'll never know where my £20 went. Same with the blood I give. Might go to save the life if a kiddie fiddler but equally might save a genuine persons life. I'll never know but I hope it did some good.

That depends. For someone who is prepared to do a days work and work hard, I don't think it's very British or acceptable, no.
For people who sit on their bum, deserve all they get
Re. Fake claims, sadly it does happen like on that channel 4 documentary, anyone see that?
No. What's it called so I can look it up on 4od?
Is it not the case though that any compassion or handouts will always have an element of abuse? But should the fact a risk of abuse exists be justification to offer no help to anyone?

I'm very very lucky. I've never had to worry where my next meal is coming from
-
it happens
I'm sure it does but do you wait until you see someone's ribcage before you believe they are starving?
-
or you were scared he was gonna nut you...
Not at all. Pleasant enough chap. I was in Tesco's the other day and some volunteers asked if I'd be kind enough to contribute to food bank which I did get £20 of food for them. Maybe I should have said **** off incase the people who go to food bank are all liars and aren't really struggling for food?

as a society thats quite often the case
I've had radom acts of compassion. If someone appears genuine and in need of help I've often gone on the side of give them the benefit of the doubt
-
Matt I don't doubt your brains with ARC etc but you just got feked over mate.
Quite possibly. As a society though have we come to the stage we would never help a stranger under any circumstances as we assume they are up to no good?
-
Contactless, yes mrs matts is. Not keen on that idea. I'm assuming cloning them would be a doddle. My card doesn't have it
-
Interesting. Didn't know it was even an option. 99% of my buying is done online and has been for a while
-
the same way as any over the phone payment....
Not done one for years. Chip and pin or online. I had assumed thy chip and pin replaced being able to do over the phone. That would make fraud dead easy
-
i was on about you,id be asking questions where and why and if he didnt offer without being asked for an address to post on the money id be inclined to preach about walking on the motorway and the dangers, where his ra for doing it was etc etc,and the fact its easy to get fuel by phoning a friend who could pay over the phone with his card at the garage
How would you do that with chip and pin? When I filled up but had no means to pay as I'd picked my wife's card up I was left in a difficult situation
-
Didn't you offer to drive them back to their "car"
No as I was annoyed by the time delays I'd already encountered en route, I didn't want any further ones.
Admit it Matt you shat it and nearly touched cloth?
Cloth?

mug..
I'd have thought with all the things you preach you'd be the first one to help out a brother
Unusual but its win win.
Just gets poured into a big barrel in the back of the transit and start all over again...
The way I saw it was he seemed quite genuine and the mug of coffee had just cost me £1 less than the fuel and I might just have helped him out from a horrid day. If I did, I'm pleased to help. If I was mugged, my loss is £5 so on the risk/reward ratio I thought it stacked up
-
Did you give money or pay directly for petrol?
Seen the forecourt 'just need a few quid to get home' scam too many times to not laugh.
Paid directly for the fuel. If he had asked for the cash I'd have said no, but he specifically asked for fuel.
-
Not sure if I've been kind or been mugged. Just outside Oxford I was returning to my car parked at the services after a pit stop and a bloke came up to me in a bit of distress with a petrol can. After the initial concearned that the school secretary was getting revenge by having me burnt to death was not the case he informed me he had run out of fuel on the motorway and wondered if I'd help him out by paying for a small amount of fuel to get him home as he had forgotten his wallet. I obliged and he was surprised at the gesture but I hope I wasn't mugged. I suppose unless he is an arsonist the fuel isn't worth much on it's own.
Would you have helped out or told him to do one?
