They saved that bit of the training for the supermasters with honours. I'm saving up tokens from the back of cereal boxes to get it.

No.
The port information is not available to anyone.
The port information is available to anyone with fing or similar on their phone, or Web based tools like yougetsignal. Very basic stuff for a computer application designer and developer.

That info is available to anyone. Surely an alarm expert with more degrees than a circle and an it consulting business would know that?
milk and 2 in mine.

Have fun.

You seem to have a smart answer for everything. Good luck with your cafe.

Monitored cctv signalling on movement on the internal cams would have done what you want though, the monitoring station would call you to alert you to the incident. If you had external detection and a pa speaker they might have warned them off.

The premises are insured and everything in it. The original job cost me a grand. But it's still nice to know when there's a hole in the window. Asap. Rather than when you turn up in the morning. Know what I mean?
That question was directed at imran not yourself. You don't need efficacy insurance to diy. I made the mistaken assumption you were doing this job for a third party, and was warning of the potential pitfalls. Dualtechs wont do what you want, vipers or audible break glass detectors are probably the closest to your needs, or go oldschool and foil the windows.
from the photos the job looks like such a ballsup you should be seeking redress from the installer.

Come on be serious , no one can do jack , you install a system they take no contract and don't have it attached to insurance etc
However if the cafe owner took a discount from there insurer gets done over when they ask for the cert etc they simply won't pay out
So you don't bother with efficacy insurance then?
-
If it is so simple why are you talking about wiring normally closed detectors in parallel or dualtechs for detecting bricks?
My question was because your initial few posts seemed like you were a sparky who had bitten off more than you can chew on a clients job.
Happy bodging.

A,b,c,d
Also you have to exit engineer mode before walk testing a new device.
-
Are you taking payment for this job?
from the questions you are asking you seem to struggle with the basics, are you aware that if the place gets done over if its worth their while the insurers can pursue you if the system fails to perform as it should?
do you hold efficacy insurance?
-
Active in the correct group? Does the device appear in the walk test list?

Cos of bandits or the plutonium?
I work in glasgow, lead isn't enough to defend from the bandits you need a kevlar/buckfast weave too.

You need to setup port mirroring on the switch to do packet sniffing

You wont see all traffic on the network unless you are using an ancient hub or a managed switch with port mirroring, some traffic will be invisible to the machine running wireshark, most of the traffic you see will be broadcast traffic.

7204hqhi-sh and ds-2ce56d7t-irm is what i'd usu in that case.

Good or basic?

it must be your supplier, i've never had a hik dvr from dynamic, adi or ezcctv that didn't come inactive ready for a fresh password, but i did have a couple from cctv direct that had clearly been returns, the cameras had even been named till, shop left etc.
if you tftp new firmware on them the password will reset to inactive, just be sure to use the right firmware as it doesn't do any sanity checking that way, it will let you apply a wrong firmare but it wont like it.
-
But its cheap and screwfix etc sells them so they must be good right?

You should get a good pro in particularly if a component was smoking. This isn't diy equipment it's pro equipment blindly messing around without knowing how to do proper electrical testing theres an outside chance you could burn your house down.
Also choose your pro carefully, i worked aside so called "engineers" at a big national who, despite working in the industry for a decade did not know how to operate a multimeter correctly or understand volt drop. This was brought to the attention of managment who shrugged their shoulders and said its hard to get good guys, when we get our nsi audit we'll send the auditor out with you or the other guy at our branch who does their job properly.
Ask them what tests they propose to do, telling them that one of the detectors was wet and smoking. They should at a minimum replace the water damaged sensors, disconnect and test all the wiring feeding those devices as it might have melted, check all the fuse values, check all the voltages and currents drawn from the panel and the charging circuit.

232-485 converters should work fine over fibre, I've done just that for wind turbine telemetry before without issue.
