  1. We pay a little less about £240.00
  2. We are about to start a IP CCTV job and have quoted 4 x Axis P8221 8 ch I/O mods for the alarms. Has anyone used a more cost effective unit that will do the same thing? I am sure there must be something out there for less £££ than the axis units, although we have fitted quite a few P8221's in the past and found them very good.
  3. No mobile is on and have web access, but calls not to me so it's very very rare I get a call. Since being told I had very high blood pressure etc a couple of years ago due to stressing over that kind of stuff I had a big change and thought feck it. It can wait until tomorrow / Monday etc, I now wind down at weekends if I am not on call and try not to think of work until Monday morning, and i get to spend quality time with my family.
  4. I came to that conclusion a couple of years ago remortgaged the house and bought a holiday home and have since spent every weekend when not on call away with my wife and kids. One of the best things I ever did.
  5. Now your talking Pete, where do I sign up ?
  6. I started on my own 8 yeas ago with nothing. If your going to make a go of it get ready for years of 80 + hour weeks. Tbh it's getting harder as the other muppets are working for peanuts these days.
  7. We have had no problems at all sending up to 4 video feeds down a single cat 5. We now us the stuff from dynamic or QED it's far better than the cr@p we have used in the past.
  8. We had some cheap cat5 off our local trade counter, it was ***** at £38.00 per box.
  9. We are almost 100% cat 5 these days and have been for about 3 years now.
  10. But surly under 2m it should be mechanically protected?
  11. Tbh, I have no reason to go for NSI. We very rarely lose a job through not being NSI As a company we are here to make a profit and as much of it as we can, saying that we don't cut corners. Since getting in the SSAIB club in 2006 we have 1 non conformity that was for a 13 amp fuse in a spur that a sparky fitted, we requested a 3 amp fuse on the spec and it was not checked on commissioning the system. SSAIB allows us to win 95% of the jobs we quote apart from the large tenders we have been offered that state NSI gold only. But to be fair I don't want that kind of work any way. So what's the point ?
  12. After spending the last few days working in Glasgow I was expecting a total nightmare. TBH what a surprise, went out in the city for a meal and a few beers and it was far from what I thought it would be. I would 100% rather work in Glasgow than London.
  13. Milestone ? But it's going to cost you a few bob.
  14. We tend to use our cherry picker to access stuff like this.
  15. Press the chime button then press the button corisponding to what led's are lit. This will turn off the chime on the zones iluminated.
  16. I hate RSD contacts they fail far to often for my liking. We have started fitting 2 x Guardall DT 15+ at each side of the shutter (with the mask connected as we only fit G3 Galaxy on monitored jobs) Our Fa rate is very low and we dont get stupid callouts to rotten RSD contacts. Even if the job is G2 we connect the mask on 99.9% of the detectors.
  17. Well i thaught i would report back after almost 6 years.... We now have 8 members of staff offices 5 vans/cars on the road and more work than we can cope with and i am stressed out. But on the whole things have gone very well for us but my god it has been a 24/7 job to get here and cost me a few health problems due to being over worked The problem now is keeping on top of all the audits and paper work etc, and we are owed a fortune Thats ths way it is LOL.. If you are thinking of leaving a full time job to start up on your own and intend to make it work get ready for a lot of very hard work and if like me its going to be 12/15 hour days for years... (
  18. I hate staples we do not use them at all and would be very disapointed if i found any of our lads using them.
  19. 100% agreed peter, i am not happy unless i am in the thick of it, thats what drives me forward.
  20. LOL I am more stressed than ever with over £70k out standing at any one point.. We have more work on than ever, 7 members of staff and looking at a new engineer in the new year. Trust me dont think its an easy ride cos its not... Thinking back 9 - 5 at Hex was a dream.. but did not get the ££ i needed. I have had shinges this last few weeks due to stress. So dont think its an easy ride, its NOT..... But on the plus side we are picking up loads of installs and most important loads of 3 year contracts
