Galaxy 60 Keypad

Featured Replies

the galaxy data bus is rs485 and has to be wired daisy chain with resistors across each end of the data line. if you wire out 2 spurs from the panel data line you have to cut a link onboard the panel pcb and fit a resistor at the end of each spur line.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

How is the existing keypad wired, in what cable and what resistors have you fitted to what? Also, are there any other devices on the data line?

The current keypad is connected using normal 6 core alarm cable (only 4 are used though). Having read some of the other topics this is obviously the wrong cable!! at the moment the wires are connected straight to the panel i.e. + on the keypad to + on the panel, - on the keypad to - on the panel, A on the keypad to A on the panel and B on the keypad to B on the panel. There are no resistors across anything on the keypad cable. If anyone could help me sort this out I would be extrmely grateful. I know that the cable I've used for the keypad is probably wrong but am open to any suggestions to put things right. thanks. (The is nothing else on the data line i.e. no RIO's etc. only one keypad so far.)

The 'proper' way of doing it is

From panel > RKP 0 > RKP 1.

The cable should be Belden 2 pair, and the panel would have had a different resistor in the same bag as all the others, spot the odd one out and that goes across A&B on the last keypad or rio on the line.

Thanks for the info. Next question!! I've used 1k resistors to go across the zone/tampers etc would I be able to use a 1k on the A/B of the 2nd keypad. if not what value do I need. Sorry about all the Q's.

Thanks for the advice you have all given, but it was bellman said, if there is a TS at the end of the number it's a thorn security keypad and only good for holding the door open!! I checked this after I'd read everyone elses help and murphy's law, it's a thorn keypad!! At least if i can get hold of a sutiable keypad i'll know what to do with it!!

thanks

To be fair both hastings and norman mentioned the incompatability problems before me.

I just told you how to tell the difference between them ;)
