Optima XM Dead?

He'll probably offer you a G3, just so he's not gotta change the panel backplate.

Isn't that an Apple computer?!

Ask him what he'd be replacing it with, and at what cost. Then pop by here and ask for advice.

Will do, thanks. Much appreciated.

Ok, he's going to come out and fix the existing box. I'll discuss a new panel with him tonight , and post back here my thoughts. He's charging £35 to come out and hopefully fix, which I thought was reasonable, and he'll knock that off the panel job if we go for it!

Thanks

Dan

very reasonable indeed. And if he has any sense he will build in the loss of the £35 to the price of the new system so that he doesn't fix the system temporarily for free.

Heheh, I wouldn't like to give business to anyone foolish enough to not do so

Rightio, been and gone within an hour. Optima all working again now, just by removing power from it for a few seconds, then back on again.

We discussed a new panel, and I told him that apparently I should steer clear of the G3. His response was to say that they are good, a natural replacement for the Optima, and there's nothing wrong with them. I didn't really have any ammo to go back with against the G3, so the discussion on panels kind of stopped there. He will supply and fit the new box (which he actually said might not be a G3) and a remote keypad, for £160.

To be fair, he's not let us down in the past, and came this evening at the drop of a hat. So I trust him.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Its not realy an upgrade though - the G3 is prone to the same problem of locking up as any other optima (the others can correct me if Im wrong here).

Think of an optima as being a ford escort; a professionally installed and maintained system is by comparison a Mercedes :)

nothing inherently wrong with the G3. It's just that there are plenty of better professional panels available.

There is nothing wrong with the G3 panel (as Lurch stated) it meets all specifications (BS4737) for a domestic dwelling.

If the equipment is installed to the manufactorys instructions and to the relevant British Standards then you should have no trouble at all.

But if you are to change the panel then perhaps go for something with a LCD display and text circuit indentifcation instead of LEDs (lights) for the zones.

Right, I'm with you. To be honest, I had an 05 Merc last week in Ireland (admittedly an A150, not really a Merc) and it was awful. More plastic than an episode of Extreme Makeover.

Seriously, I think for the cost it will be worth going for the G3. Unless there's something of a similar price you think I should go for.

Thanks

Dan
