Optima Compact Problem

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm a DIY'er but I didn't fit this one!

Moved to new house, (existing alarm fitted by local company).

A few months ago neighbors complained alarm going off when we were out.

Then the alarm started to refuse to allow us to set it - just kept beeping with a tamper light on zone 4. I had a look and noticed the PIR in this zone had no sensor light on. I replaced it but got the same problem. Put a meter across the PIR cable, found a possible problem with the +- wires so put the factory link across the tamper terminals and used the tamper wires in the PIR for the +-. This restored the sensor light.

Got a new battery since date on old one was 1998. Factory reset the system.

All walk tests etc work but it won't let me set-up the zones or set the alarm (there's no red lights it just beeps).

As I understand it you press PROG whilst in engineer mode and zones 1,2 & 3 are supposed to flash. They don't. I've set the entry/exit times etc whilst in engineer mode so don't know if it's me or the unit.

Do you think it's fixable or should I get a new system?

Thanks

What engineer code are you using?

And for the record how did you change the entry/exit times?

The reason I ask is that the exit/entry time settings are contained further in the menu system you say you cant get into - so you must have already past the point you mentioned above or you would NOT have been able to change the entry/exit times.

Thanks for replying.

I changed the engineers code from 9999, so I put in my new code after I press PROG - Day and Attack lights come on.

I can then press 0 and do the alarm tests, 1 to set the exit timer etc.

according to the manual I should then be able to press PROG and get zones 1,2 and 3 to flash, but it just beeps and nothing happens??

If you press 0 first after you are in engineer, then you will need to press Reset..

If you press Prog then enter you eng code, then press Prog again do zones 1 to 3 light up?

If not are you sure you are using the Eng code and not a user code??

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

I have been pressing reset when necessary.

Prog , eng code - get Day and Attack and can test

Prog , eng code , Prog - no codes just a beep

Prog, user code, Prog - I get tamper and day

Prog, 9999, Prog - no codes just a beep

Cant remember properly, but some panels need the end station opening before you can carry out certain programming functions.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Prog , eng code , Prog - no codes just a beep
What do you mean by no codes?

Press "Prog", then enter eng code, you should get "Day and Attack" leds

Now press "Prog" again and you should get led's 1,2 & 3 flashing

How old is the panel?

You could try and default the panel to see if that works

Not on this panel ;)

are you sure you have  the right manual for the panel? there have been a few versions.

As far as I know the manual is the correct one.

>Press "Prog", then enter eng code, you should get "Day and Attack" leds

-Yes

>Now press "Prog" again and you should get led's 1,2 & 3 flashing

No it beeps once and stays at attack and day

>How old is the panel?

At least 6 years
