Honeywell AG8 bell box

Featured Replies

Hi all,, Slight issue, I Installed a Honeywell Accenta G4 back in 2013 with a Honeywell AG8 sounder. Alarm has been working fine with numerous tests over the years including the occasional accidental setting off. This week daughter forgot to disarm when walking downstairs. She entered code and alarm stopped on internal sounder, but external sounder would not disarm. IT Continued to ring for at least 5 mins then stopped on its own. Not too bothered as alarm works as desired , but would be nice to see whats changed. Thoughts Please !!

Cheers JB

Unit failed,

Panel failed,

Or wired with strobe & bell output wrong way round.

Just to be clear as only diyer.. Are you saying that when alarm triggers is causes the anti tamper also.. ? Again not too familiar on how to test, but happy to use multi meter,  suppose i would have to open bell box, and check that no volts when anti tamp is engaged. Thanks J

Apologies, no, as the siren rings this can sometimes vibrate the internal tamper spring from it's position causing a tamper.

You can check for a negative return on the tamper wire from the siren at the panel end.

At the control panel identify the correct wire from the siren, remove from the control panel and put the negative probe of your multi-meter on it, the positive probe onto a 12+ source, if the tamper loop is complete the multimeter will show c12v, if the tamper loop is broken it will show 0v

Be careful there is mains voltage present in the control panel so only do this if you are competent, otherwise call a specialist.

Is the onboard bell box timer set for 5 minutes? (may be worth triggering the bell again from the panel to check that the bell fuse has not blown)

Well little update.. Thanks to all, decided to test bell from control panel,, forced bell test and the disabled,, bell continued to sound. Ear defenders ready unscrewed cover from bell, and pushed screw anti tamper fully back ,, bell stopped. seem anti tamper as you said was the culprit. cleaned out token spiders replaced cover while bell sounding ensuring screw was uber tight, bell stopped .. tested force bell at panel on and off,, all working fine.. Cherrs for guidance , much appreciated.
