fine

every change of tenancy requires an electrical inspection,

every cert will document the the no. of mains powered smoke detectors,

IIRC battery only complies with the some recent landlord regs but not with the building reg ?

Mr th2.jpg Veritas God

I've always had a mix of detectors in the houses and make them sign the inventory to say they have seen them tested and will keep the batteries replaced when required, I even photo the dates on the batteries...

iirc it was a stipulation of my insurance.

On the below you can see the dated label on them too...

You gonna gob that big hole up which may allow a fire to penetrate the stair case ?

Good point and well spotted...

No.

The stairs are bare wood in any case just out of sight.

Thanks for the advice again but this is an existing tenant  . The smoke alarm has nowt to do with my problem although it has brought to my attention the need for a regular simple test.

Yeah, sorry and back on point...

I'd contact your landlord, he may be miffed if you start messing with fixtures and fittings albeit with good intent.
