My guess would be that you have solved the problem, but finding a credible cause will stop you investigating further, so I dont blame you for using caution. That said I am 99% sure it is most likely the cause.

UPDATE: the alarm has now been tested fully for over two weeks - four days at full set -  and all is well. Once again a big thank you to all who helped me. It was very much appreciated.
