Thanks for the reply's and being there when seeking good advice on alarms, an area I lack experience in. I needed a few pointers to start me off on finding our particular fault. I shall take you advice and get a replacement battery next week in case of any further tamper faults that my arise. Thanks again

do what most alarm engineers do , link it out - fault cleared !! no ladders needed

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

To be fair if I inherited a house with an Optima I'd be 'linking it out' via the skip...

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
