Query On A Couple Of Panels (Mine And My Sons)

Recommended Posts

I have two different alarm queries, one for our house, and one for my sons flat. Both properties had the alarms installed from new. House was built in 2001, flat in 2006. In neither case do we have the details of the alarm installer (which would make life much easier). We live in east Manchester if there are any local experts people can recommend.

In our house, we have a Securit ST800L+ alarm and remote keypad (made by Honeywell?). We only have the user code for this, we do not have an engineer code, or any means of getting one. Obviously I do not know if the engineer code has been locked. I have an intermittent fault on a mag switch which protects an internal door. I also strongly suspect that the panel battery needs replacing, since it is 14 years old. I can get and fit a replacement mag switch, but when I change this I will break the tamper circuit and the alarm will sound. Same will happen when I open the panel to swap the battery. If the tamper alarm triggers, can I switch the alarm off using the user code?

In my sons flat, he has a Veritas R8 panel with remote keypad. We know that the backup battery in the panel needs changing, since the alarm sounds when he has a power cut. I have a replacement battery ready to fit, but the Veritas R8 has a user code and an engineer code. We don’t know the installer, I have asked the builder for the engineer codes, they told me the two defaults, neither of which work. So I’m sure that the engineer code has been changed, but I don’t know if the code has been locked. We obviously know the user code, but can’t find the engineer code.

So basically same question for a different panel - If I open the panel to swap the backup battery the anti-tamper will trigger and the alarm will sound. If I enter the user code while the panel is open will the alarm switch off? If not, I can switch off the alarm after closing the panel using the user code, can’t I? There isn’t some sort of nasty gotcha lurking here?

All input much appreciated.

Hi Paul,

With the Veritas, yes, you can silence the tamper alarm after opening the panel by entering a user code. Change the battery, close the panel again, press reset and and all should be good. The only complication maybe if the panel is programmed for engineer reset after a tamper, in which case after closing the lid, enter the engineer code, then press reset and it should be job done :-)
