datadiffusion
tongue! OP, please don't do that, as before you need a new battery, no question. Whether the charging circuit in the panel has been damaged is another matter. Either way the system is so old, and full LCD keypad based systems that at the time would have been unaffordable (i.e 9500) can now be had at for dinner-for-two prices, I'd recommend a change of panel. morph
Now now boys you both know where I was going with that statement
Gemini
The battery is giving out about 4.5v, and the charger 14v (decimal something). I used a multimeter. I don't see how the system using LED instead of LCD can affect it's performance, as the modern equivalent is the Honeywell G4, and that is available in both options. The system belongs to the family, and we would like to see what/if the faults are, before any consideration is made about having a new panel. The battery is not connected. The system should work without a battery, as it is just for redundancy isn't it? We don't use the system much as the building is well occupied etc.

Gemini
There was a case tamper full alarm condition (including bell) whilst I was moving the PCB. It was in engineer mode. I had to cancel it with the user code, and couldn't reset or re-enter engineer mode until the lid was closed, and then start again.

morph
Gemini, your not getting this. The battery is done, it needs to be replaced, before you do anything else.
Gemini
Should the battery affect anything else though, or is it purely for the event of a complete mains failure?
MrHappy
OP, why pop around a local alarm co. after they've gone home.... I'm certain you'll find a better set alarm panel chucked their bin Edited August 5, 2014 by MrHappy Quote Mr Veritas God
Gemini
I appreciate advice on here, but many posts appear to be sales pitches with "throw it away" type of answers. I like to prove that a product is fully deffective before anything gets disposed.
