May 24, 201312 yr comment_323013 Help required We run SBS2011 via a Netgear FVS336GV2 Router is set to 192.168.0.1 SBS is set to 192.168.0.2 : Subnet 255.255.255.0 SBS is DHCP server for network I am now setting up a VMware Sphere virtual server and have done a clean install of SBS 2011 on it I want to get the new server up and running, ready to switch over after I have tested it and am happy with it With SBS2011 you cannot have two dhcp servers on the same network so I was going to set up a secondary lan ip on the router of 10.0.0.1 and give the new SBS an address of 10.0.0.2 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0 I have put equipment accidently on the network in the past that had dhcp switched on and caused absolute chaos hence my question before I try it Would it work or would I finish up with two dhcp servers clashing with each other, or is their another way? What are my options, I am not that network savvy Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/34619-vmware-server/ Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 May 24, 201312 yr comment_323019 if you have multiple dhcp servers it will force an election. As long as your new dhcp has a lower value it will win, but bear in mind sbs has to be the sole dhcp server on the subnet securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount. May 25, 201312 yr comment_323033 I'd either do it as you suggest (a VLAN so the two don't collide) or turn it off on both whilst you transition from one to the other. James - SBS has a fit with multiple DHCP servers for some reason. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/ Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/34619-vmware-server/#findComment-323033 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
