Rkp Not Initializing

I have previously intalled a Texecom Veritas in my old home successfully and by chance our new home has the same alarm that was professionally installed, which I have the engineer's code for.

The RKP was old and the buttons worn so I purchased an LCD keypad to replace it. This is the only RKP and the dip switches are set to default OFF.

I powered down the system by turning off the mains and then entered the engineer code and PROG. The old RKP then began to make a strange continuous sound and activated the internal alarm. I disconnected the battery at the main console and then took out the old RKP.

I replaced the RKP, checking and double checking that the connections were correct according to the wiring used at the main console.

When I connect the battery I get the expected 9 beeps but the RKP just hangs with the message 'Intializing, please wait'. It never changes and after a while the alarm begins to arm itself. I have been having to disconnect the battery and then reconnect it to stop the external alarm sounding and go back to the 9 beeps stage.

I also replaced the battery with a new 7A model as the old one was 9 years old and was fading. I have checked again that the wiring is correct at the RKP and mains console. I have tried a reset with the tamper switch at the main box but that doesn't help in any way.

If I close the main box lid, where the tamper is no longer activated, I get 10 beeps. At the moment I have had to keep the alarm powered down and waited until the external alarm had silenced itself.

I suppose I am limited to calling out an engineer unless there are any suggestions here please.

Thanks guys. I wrongly assumed it was the same as my last one which was an Excel model. Looking at the serial number inside it starts V8R which I assume means its a standard Veritas R8 so that's why it's not working then.

I'll try putting the old one back on tomorrow & if that works I'll buy a new one of those.
