Newbie here

My question is , i want to set up a 2 camera system with night vision to 40m ,

should i go down the maplin route

or will i get a better system for my monies if i buy separate

Budget of around £500.00

Hi Pete Welcome to the forum

Swerve maplin like your life depended on it, most of there cameras have plastic lenses that warp in the sun. the kit is cheap and nasty.

You would struggle to get 40 meters ir for your budget, £500 gets one decent light, no camera, no dvr. Most of the cheap IR cameras say upto 30 meters IR I havent seen one that does anywhere near 30 meters, 20 meters max and then its not that good.

There are plenty of budget companies out there, I would avoid buying from Ebay or Maplins. I only buy from trade suppliers and wouldnt buy in your budget range so cant really tell you the good from the bad in budget country
