Go underground.

Nice-Hippo

Get a bracket made for base of gate to sit on motor spindle. Change top hinge for a wrap around = no moving parts (as such) to get fingers/arms trapped in.

Are you going to "close board" the gate. If so is it windy there, could cause a problem.

Hippo I think is the safer with a 24vdc motor.

90 degree opening or 180 ? Either way it just means adjusting the hinge geometry. So think about that for the future. Easier to do all in one go.

Get the Ariel up high, will mean the gate is open as you get to drive rather than wait although that looks a quiet road.

Use the pre flash warning facility and maybe a buzzer and "train the children to keep away when they see/hear it. Soon it will become second nature ( yes I know they are young still, and will not be out there for a while).
