arfur mo Posted May 22, 2010 Share Posted May 22, 2010 tbh the Maplins units i find pretty good for the 'bread & butter' systems at the price, generally always available reasonably locally and way better than any anti-surge extension lead. really, on smaller budget systems your looking to protect against the short 'flick' power downs, as to protect against say an 8 hour outage, add in the cameras and your going to be paying the big bucks that shopping centers might command. regs Arfur Mo If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! arfur mo Posted May 23, 2010 Share Posted May 23, 2010 no probs with that, for CCTv and PABX needs you rarely need more than 5 minutes standby. cheap CCTv on a power down will usually mean cameras are dead anyway unless powe4ed from the DVR, so you looking to make sure the DVR is protected for when the power restores, PABX 5+ mins is enough to call the emergency service and/or evacuate staff for a suspected bomb scare for instance. so a budget unit from Maplin will be fine for that need, obviously increase for the jobs that need it. iirc the smaller Maplin units they have 3 x13 amp socket outputs, but only one socket is maintained. so the 'trick' is to use an extension lead if you need to power the PSU's as well. regs Arfur Mo just to add, these units carry a hefty indemnity insurance for any damage not prevented from EMF or Lightning http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=222105 regs Arfur Mo If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
