Which Type Of Cable

Featured Replies

Hi Danny the tech, i've chosen this camera, it has built in IRs. http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productd...jsp?sku=SR07225

How much ?

If you only knew what they cost when they come out of the factory, that is just barking

CAMERA LONG RANGE IR ZOOM

Iris Type:Varifocal

Lens Size:3.8mm

A zoom lens camera, with a 3.8mm optic and a varifocal iris ... that's why it costs so much, it's totally unique

Just to throw a spanner into the mix, what about CAT6 cables. Does anyone have any data on cable lengths for this grade cable. I'm guessing though that the cost makes it a no-brainer.

cat 6 is for higher network speed, with less crosstalk etc. Cant see how it would help in your situation

Sorry but IMO you'd have to be off your rocker paying

Edited by tonsai

it depends on the ambient light level.

I would suggest that IR is a bit specialist. IR cameras have made its use more wide spread but IMO i would only use IR (and not a combined IR/cam ever) lamp/emitter for covert or due to light pollution etc. Sometimes its desirable but as a rule id say visible light is better.

To do IR right you need to use a cameras that has an auto switching IR filterm ir corrected lens's to prevent focus drift etc etc. WHat makes it worse is the cheap cams as they have none of this. ANMd then you will be dissapointed with the results. FOr some reason the expectation is that 40 leds will rpovide as much light as a 500w floodlight. It really doesnt!

If low loght performance is needed and you need IR then fine, otherwise id look at visiable IR and inprove the orverall security as well.

Is this the typoe of cam you mean: Samsugn Techwin 1/3" High Resolution, WDR Vandal-Resistant Dome

Also, am I right in saying that this camera doesn't really need IR floods. The lux levels look incredibly low.

I thought maybe CAT6 had a greater AWG value but just read up and it has the same as CAT5 (24AWG)

CAT6 has more space between the cores/pairs, so lower capacitance, might make a difference on very long runs, but no point in it for 55M.

At that distance, with 7 cameras, you might as well use co-ax.
