Have you considered the CCTV fire detection systems. Seem to be well suited to large open buildings such as the one shown. Although they are not cheap.

Somebody went to site as it where "urgent" back in 2008. 2.5 yrs later there still at the quoting stage.

Rather than go on a 60mile wild goose chase we asked for emailed plans to design new system, 4 months later we still waiting
