Insurance Cover

Depends what your installing?

Not for me it doesn't, the world is more litigious than it's ever been and everyone is out to make a buck on the back of some perceived 'failure' - IMO it's a brave or foolhardy man who takes the risk.

I can see issues with intruder, cctv and access which might lead to a costly claim by the client or their insurer.

Roger i get the intruder aspects but what about the CCTV & Access, care to edumacate me on them lines?

simply: failure to perform

your paid to install a working system and through no fault of the components it does not perform as required and a loss is incurred.

rightly or wrongly customer sues you, without efficacy cover it's up to your deep pockets to protect everything you've worked for.

Indeed!

You design a cctv system to monitor vandalism at a works yard, PIR's cause ptz to zoom onto areas of fencing where vandals break through. Your design fails because your PIR's were too short on range to cover the fence near the diesel tank - overnight the fence is breached and the tank emptied into adjacent offices - the ARC had no indication.

You design an access control system linked to the fire alarm at a warehouse where there are night workers, a fire breaks out and some staff follow the exit route to the side entrance, the maglocks have not released and the breakglass isn't working as its been wired incorrectly and wasn't properly tested as you/your engineer was in a hurry to get home for tea - several staff are injured whilst trying to get out.

There are numerous possible scenarios where life or property are affected as a result of you equipment failing, your design being inadequate or you advice being faulty.

No insurance cover is fine for an unmarried one man set-up working from a council house. He's got so few possessions that he can afford the risk.

For me, I've got possessions worth a third of a million .... and I wanna keep 'em! .... ipso facto I need insurance that protects me in the scenarios indicated above.

... so my insurance costs me

Yup - if he's an idiot, frankly. Even he probably cannot afford to lose his business, credibility, and quite possibly his freedom.

Do you have an approved alarm, sir?

Strictly, your insurance will replace them once gone, not help you keep them.........

... so my insurance costs me
