It's good product. And should do well. Certainly up there with Sage already. big advantage Sage have is inertia. And accountants who think using Sage is compulsory.

Google shop it and you should find it cheaper than RRP

i have looked at the free version and run the trial pro version, imo not bad but does have some limitations which prevent me personally from using it, mainly 'nested' clients not supported (i use quickbooks pro).

not knocking MS as i think it will develop to be if not the market leader, just a bit raw in parts at the moment.

i would advise as with any mission critical software, look at it and run unison with your current accounts package for at least 3 months, until you are absolutely sure every thing works as it should for you personally - don't assume anything with software and you won't be disappointed.

I did a SAGE course 1988 poss 1989 cos we wanted to get up to date. We used book keeper for a year or so. Business got to the point where we had to get an overdraft and I couldn't understand why, as nothing had changed. I spent a LONG time going over "the books" and found we hadn't been chasing invoices, hadn't deleted non payers, hadn't charged for minor works and allsorts.

Went back to parchment and quill. Still there now. No overdraft. No reams of paper following audit trail, No bad debts.

I can see there is a place for accounts packages, but for me, I like to be in control.

Incidently, we work out of multioccupancy offices, and one company here specialises in training for accounts software and they aint shown me yet a good reason to change. Nor has my accountant, nor the VAT man, nor my bank manager, nor the tax man.

Just my opinion, like I said:

I like to be in control

i too started with doubkle entry book keeping on paper, then used a commodore 128 and 'superscript' wort processer, it was programmble so you could have macros in documents to do the maths.

VAT initially on accrual came along, no way was i doing that all by hand, tried with spread sheets theni i was given a pukka copy of SAGE bookeeper v4.10 dos version by my then accountant, to fix his door entry system (and to encourage me in better ways of book keeping practice's).

learn't that and also taught my wife, who is now the accounts dept manager for an IT firm and also demonstrates sage line 50 and 200 to clients. went on from there via tas books and, then quicken and now with Quick Books Pro.

in that time i learn't you do have to have discipline with any software, but imo well worth it. within QBPro i can raise an estimate, from that a sales order, from that invoices including handling progress payments and statements. as i do all the parerwork and push the screwdrivers it's a godsend, and joy of joys when i'm asked for a pribnt out for this or that i can bury the tax inspector in dead tree's.

i'd look at the free version of MS accountant takes a bit to down load and install if you on paper accounting methods, might just draw you in if your needs are not to be very sophisticated.

Thanks for the advice Alan - I mean it.

It's good to get info without someone trying to flog you something.

I'm new to this site, so new in fact I've just realised most members are at home whilst contributing. Me, still in the office and just got a txt "where are you". Since joining spent too long reading up on the past.

So off home, and my excuse for being late: "just cooking the books love".

i'm happy to be of some use in something that is so core to any business survival.

got to be said i'm not always so liked, apreciated or listened to - but i still say it lol!

have a look here

http://community.quickbooks.co.uk/

you will see the good the bad and the ugly regarding quickbooks, i'm sure there are other forums for Sage and MYOB etc. which like this forum will more often than not offer up good advice from the coal face - not some vague pricey off shore call center using compressed lines and a script :ranting:

there, i feel so much better for that
