Accenta 8 Charging Circuit Help

Featured Replies

Hi folks, can anyone help me.

On replacing the battery on my mates accenta 8 I noticed that the resister in the charging circuit is burned and loose on the circuit board,

does anyone have any idea what rating it is because the identifier marks on it are burned off.

There is no other damaged to the circuit board.

I cant remember if it is 4.7 ohm or 47 ohm.

Hope you can help.

Thanks

John

Too expensive to replace the board?

My mate doesnt really want to replace it, its working fine apart from the charging circuit,

Iv'e come across this quite alot , once the resister was replaced the alarm was ok , i can't remember what size the resister is and theyr'e only a few pence from maplins so if i can get the right resister then i'll replace it.

Iv'e found out its a 47 ohm resister , I found an old panel with one in , so i desoldered it & i'll fit it in the morning.

I'll let you know how i get on.

Thanks

Battery Problem id suggest

But i see kka point, its not normally a good idea to just replace one thing, ie it maybe be 12 things damaged but only 1 thing showing visible signs of damage. It may then work again for seconds, minutes, hours or days.

For the cost of a new board then thats the way we would go.

We would too.

Especially has the board is probably now 'stressed' due to component failure and heat damage.

However, this repair seems to be getting done as a favour or mates rates.

It's a 47 ohm 0.5 watt.

The charging cct is the same as the old metal cased logic 4. Used to have to snip one leg of resistor if fitting dry cell battery as diode in parallel with resistor etc. They done away with the diode when brought out the optima (no one fitted dry cells anymore) but charging cct otherwise was unchanged. They dont like duff rechargable batteries with one or more short cct cells.

If your mates system has any Viper3 shocks then BIG TIME you need to a, change the 12v supply fuse to 1A (1.6A fitted) and b, check all vipers (esp any fitted to windows that get condensation) for signs of burning. I kid you not, had three in the past catch alight.
