Scantronic 9448+ Beeps Every 15 Secs?

Featured Replies

The external bell for my Scantronic burglar alarm keeps making a single beep every 15 seconds. The alarm itself seems fine, no tamper lights showing and all PIRs work ok. I've opened up the control panel and replaced one of the fuses that appeared to be blown (the other two seem fine) but the beeping continues.

The alarm system is probably at least 6 - 9 years old.

Can anyone suggest what I should try next.

Many thanks

Is it every 15 seconds. or approx 15 secs?

If the building is empty and you stand completly still does it stop?

If it does id suggest you have a circuit on chime.

Thanks for the fast response.

Its every 15 secs. It continues to beep throughout the night when the alarm is set and throughout the day whether there are people in the house or not.

There is no internal beep, it only sounds from the external bell.

No tamper lights are shown on the control panel and the alarm is working normally in all other respects except for this issue.

you have a cqr box ;)

Sounds horrible... could you explain this in more detail, preferably with a possible solution?

Many thanks

billy is saying you have a bellbox made by cqr. Either way if iys coming from the external bell then id say that was faulty. I would try disconnecting the bell trigger from the panel and see if that stops it. If it does it will need investigating.

LOL - many thanks for the clarification and for the advice.

I'll disconnect the connection when I get home tonight and see what the result is.

thanks again.

Some scanny panels used to do this if the battery was duff or disconnected, 1st time I've heard of a 9448 doing it though.

There isnt an old smoke detector in an outside bin is there?

Dont laugh, I've been called out for it before, twice. Once was an old smoke detector in next doors garden and the other time it was in the dustbin.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

if I where a betting man*, I say your sigma bell box where cheaping to tell you the nicad failing ;)

OK - replacement battery was purchased last week and connected up on Thursday morning. The beeping seemed to have gone and the alarm was working normally.

Unfortunately, at about 11pm on Friday night the external beep returned again!

2 questions:

1. How can I check that the battery is recharging? I wonder if the issue is back because there is no more charge left in the battery?

2. Is there a Day / Night configuration for this alarm? Reason I ask is that the beeping seems to beep on a 12 hour cycle, it beeps through the night and then doesn't beep during the day?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks
