May 11, 200818 yr Author comment_197209 No, one pair for video and one pair for power (so 2 spare pairs) .. the distribution hubs (in the pdf) are sealed, so unless I absolutely corned beef hash it using nasty ald' terminal strips I'm stuffed. If tomorrows tests prove inconclusive and 24v doesnt work, I think I'll just run fresh "proper gauge" two core around the building for the power and tell them that's how it's got to be! ________ Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/23181-baluns-and-power-max-current-draw/page/2/#findComment-197209 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 May 12, 200818 yr comment_197214 whistle dont think the make of balun has anything to do with it realy, i would say that its an ohms law thing and the demand is too high for the cable size. 24v may help.. good luck securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount. May 13, 200818 yr Author comment_197407 Well ... all cameras were being supplied 11.6v even the ones within 5m of the Balun power hub thing. When the IR kicked in this shot down to 6v for two seconds then 0v There was mention in the hub's wiring diagram that it was only suitable for 12v DC so I didnt chance putting 24v AC across it. Instead I ran 1mm twin to each of the cameras and the problem was cured, got a constant 12v at every camera Bloody cat5, useful only for non ir cams. Thanks for your replies chaps. ________ Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/23181-baluns-and-power-max-current-draw/page/2/#findComment-197407 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 May 14, 200818 yr comment_197442 LOL Lots, COP enough said. Not Much COP I think COP is great stuff...for the price. Not their fault if the engineer doesnt understand the pretty basic concept of V over IR and tries to power Infra red cameras, not even supplied by COP, over a single 24 guage pair. Even high end manufacturers expect a little technical naus on the part of the bloke who specs the job. May 14, 200818 yr comment_197467 Bloody cat5, useful only for non ir cams. Handy little bit of info for some though. Even for those who now have the benefit of hindsight!
