Certainly not, there's every chance the alarm battery will suffer permanent damage and there's a small possibillity it could explode. Alarm panel control batteries require trickle charging over a period of upto 24 hours from a regulated 1Amp max DC charger. ........................................................ October 15, 200718 yr comment_181119 As the title says, "How do I charge up the back up battery from a control panel"?I've replaced my old Optima G3 control panel and want to use the battery for other things. 12v so is it safe to use a car battery charger? i'd wonder how old is this battery? if over 3 years likely a better use would be a door stop. as for using a car charger not so good an idea as they can deliver far to much current to quickly into a faulty battery (some can develope intternal shorts if the plates buckle), thats when things get a bit hot and go pop - loudly, they are designed for higher capacity lead acid/gel as used on cars. if you have a battery conditioner as used on motor bikes or caravan to keep them topped up, that will do the job or you can buy a charger from Maplin's or most good model shops (used in r/c cars boats etc.). if you want to experiment with electronics or powered models then get a stablised power supply where you can control the current and voltage limits, again from maplins as they are very reasonably priced. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
