Scantronic 9800 very tech question

Featured Replies

:!:

Im a radio amateur.

I have an anoying Scantronic 9800 which is causing great interference to my

reception of 3.5Mhz and 1.8Mhz amateur radio.

I wonder does anyone know if there is a newer vesion of the control pannel

that will work with my exsisting keypad?

Im hoping there will be a more versatile model that maybe has a faster clock processor so as to eliminate the problem I have.

It is the clock data bus I can hear on my radio as the sound changes when activating the keypad on the alsrm etc.

thanks

Unfortunately Dominic, Scantronic dont make another panel that would use the same 9800 Keypad. They make newer models though which may or may not use the same speed data bus.

But I know the Gardtec 800 Series of panels, and the Ademco Galaxies do not cause this problem, Although I`m a G7 and mainly operate VHF, I do a lot of SWL on my Icon 729, and both the above mentioned panels have been installed at this location and never given me any problems anywhere on the bands.

Alternatively you might want to try re-wiring the keypad using screened cable to your existing 9800 control panel, this may cure the problem.

cheers.

The problem I have is my double glazing was cut to fit arount the 9800 k/pad

Im unsure if it is radiating more from the k/pad cable or all the other cables? I have put ferrite rings around all the cables with little change.

It is so strong I guess the whole wiring is acting as an aerial.

Do any other manufactures have k/pads the same size as the 9800?

cheers for now

Dominic

Your best bet would be the Gardtec 800 Series panel, with their larger LCD Keypad and seperate housing.

Here`s the link to the sales literature: Gardtec 800 Series Its a PDF file so you`ll need adobe acrobat to view it, you`ll see 4 keypads on display and `i`m referring to either of the bottom 2, the keypad is 170mm X 139mm (measurements taken from my own keypad) and can be mounted vertically or horizontaly to suit your requirements.

Im not too sure if this is big enough to hide where your 9800 keypad is, youll have to measure it. But at the moment this is the biggest keypad I can think off.

Also I`m sure the 800 Series uses a 9.830Mhz buss, so all your interferance problems should be solved.

ok

I reckon it is time to upgrade the whole lot as this 9800 is 8 years old and all the pir's are looking discoloured anyway.

I wonder can you recomend a trade outlet for panels, pir's and bel boxes?

I work for an electronics company so an account shouldn't be to much trouble.

cheers for your time in replying to me.

Check how many cores you have running to the keypad, the 9800 only needs 3 but other panels often use more!

Otherwise you may have to recable the keypad.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

U could try swapping the pcb for a 9800plus exactly the same connections, or try using screened cable to the keypad, or even tie all spare cores on the rkp cable down to earth.

Regards

An ACT 2468 filter might be a help as well

Doubt very much that would stop the panel radiating all over the lower HF bands.
