duh, the alarm is a security system which has requirement to have tamper circuit to detect tampering.

Gabs Security goes to Mrs Smiths house & fit a system, she gives the code to Robin B'stard the painter.

Robin B'stard, lets himself in every day to paint the house whilst Mrs Smith suns herself in glamorous Cleethorpes

Robin takes the lid of the panel & links out a no. of circuits as advised by google / a popular alarm forum,

A month or so after being paid for the painting Robin returns & does the gaff over.

Mrs Smith return home to find her valuables gone,

blah, blah, blah.... would normally end with legal tift & attempt to sue the alarm co.

I actually never thought of it like that.

Good description, you should pin it to the top, so people can see why an anti-code would be used. I guess it could still be troublesome, if you just wanted to change the battery. Does your company use anti-codes? I think Google need to do something about the forum, with no rules. I am pretty sure giving out default info should be banned. DIY NOT don't.

thanks for the reply, I have learned something new :)

Anti-Code is still in use today

I thought it might be, but its not fair if the customer needs to open the alarm cover for whatever reason, then it locks out, especially if the company have gone out of business who installed the alarm.

  3. What are your opinions as security engineers on the 'anti-code'? I believe that it is the same as 'Engineer reset on tamper. I bet it isn't popular with customers. If it is even used by anyone. (Extract taken from Accenta 8 instructions)

Galaxy with Hkc wireless and mixture of bells if it could work together with Hkc software with a few mods ,

And of course some texecom firmware updates should do the trick

HKC sound good. I haven't herd much about them or seen many of their products. I'd have an Elmdene Rapier, or a box preferably with a bell in in, as it is more distinctive.

With so many systems why bother with any of those , Veritas maybe best but it's in the dark ages now , and fitted by mostly sparkes as above

If you could choose from any in the world, what would you choose to install? Panel, PIRs and bell box? ;)

Or you could just install virtually any other system with a prox keypad!

Texe at least allows you to remove virtually everything from a users menu so with the 'right' (or wrong) fob you can do nothing other than autoset and unset, just like the Logic 6.

Another feature that was copied from the Menvier / Scantronic EN Platform range I believe, same team wasn't it?

Ha, I guess. I'd probably end up going for a Castle Care Tech panel in my home, when I'm older. So, ADE copied from Scantronic? Naughty of them. Do Menvier still make wired panels?

The veritas would be our choice.  It's what we / our sparks fit in the new builds, it's normally what the builder specs with a white bell cover.... No free advertising there.

That's is a shame, I would insist to have my logo put on a bell box, if I installed. Always good to get some free Advertising in! :)

    Logic well discontinued.

I wouldn't bother fitting either any more but would choose Veritas out of your options.

Strange, I didn't notice, I think ADE or Honeywell should add a Prox feature to the Accenta keypads. Ah, that is what I thought. I also think that the Veritas LCD keypad is better looking than the LCD Accenta keypad.

I don't think the 6 took off. After all, it was essentially a bodge on top of an existing, ageing panel.

Our local TLC Direct still had stock until last year IIRC. Must have been an **** to prog. http://www.responseelectronics.com/downloads/1364919803Logic_Six_Install.pdf

Not an entirely stupid idea though - and not entirely unlike Guardall's prox arming station. Although with that at least there was an engineer keypad and full UDL.

Ah, do you mean the Optima, or Logic 4 as the ageing panel it took over?  Yeah, I can see how hard these must be to program. I always thought that they'd be good for people who suffered memory loss, or weren't able to use a keypad.

  8. What do you prefer for ease of use, instillation and build quality, Veritas or Accenta G4 and what would you rather install?

Also, has the Logic 6 been discontinued? I can't seem to find one of them, or a simple set reader anymore. Seems a bit weird, I would have thought that they were two very popular products.

I tend to butcher plastics & pcbs when removing

Friday night I changed a 9 circuit Euro 12 c/w old metal zem into 76M that I had on stock.

I unscrewed the speaker, scb & rkp then chopped the euro 12 pcb in half, hacked away at the plastics & until the pcb would pass out the back of the old cabinet, removed old zem from metal cabinet & mounted pcb into new endstation.

1.5hrs on site, everything texted up & tested.... however new cabinet did look a bit pissed on the wall when I stood back to admire it.

Ha, oh dear! Oh, well. I will keep on the look out, or get some sort of plastic box. Do you have any old transformers for alarm panels? Just need one for my Accenta

Lol alarm monkeys keep them in service Aslong as possible

Ah, right. I see. Do Honeywell still do those larger ADE Poly-carbonate cases? I may ring and ask.

    9 hours ago, sixwheeledbeast said:

I wouldn't worry about that, they're unlikely to be put back in service.

Do you have any old alarm plastic cases kicking around?

Are used ones not cheap on eBay?

They are, but I thought it would be a shame to pull them apart if they are still working. Just wondering because someone here may have taken one out, and doesn't want any money for the old panel, just postage, which I'd happily pay.

When I took out a Menvier panel a few years back, there was a till roll inside where back in 1996 the original Co. had printed out

the programming data, just in case I suppose!

most panel manufacturer list printer interfaces,

bet they sell less than they are churches saudi

I think this is the same as my datac printer?

Thanks for the reply, guys :) This may be a bit off topic from this, but have you taken out any dead panels? Like an Optima, Accenta or something simple like that? I want to pull apart an alarm circuit board, to see in detail how it works, and how it has been programmed. I also need a casing for my Accenta Mercury panel, any help is much appreciated :)

No binned my 9500 etc.. printers a while back.

Shame, I can't seem to find anything like it on eBay, it only requires 3 wires to connect to the panel.

I've never seen an opus 42 or cpa6

I acquired datac printer from scantronic multiscan,

In my experience a branch of national co. or large regional installer might have one 7300 nvm programmer or a logging printer

Do you know if anything like these are still made, for panels like the Galaxy??

It was a while ago but I'm pretty sure everything was totally enclosed - didn't venture past the door. I don't know much about distribution (although am a qualified spark) but we are only talking a 4" square room here.

No doubt it was only fully enclosed being it dated from the 30s and nowadays it would be either totally exposed like the newer kit around the area or in a plastic shed.

    ME ME PLEASE CHOOSE ME!

Around here, we have brick built substations, but they have plastic roofs, look strange, and a smelly old yellow Sonade with rusty bolts. I think the LEDs still flash in them, well, most of them anyway.

I'd love to be an engineer, sounds like a good job, with no day the same.

Bristol Water sites appear to favour the Reson8. Classy. Although no-one is ever going to hear them in the middle of sodding nowhere and the systems are almost certainly monitored.

I was honestly surprised when I walked past a Reson8 sounding, the ba***rd was so loud, I had to cross the road, and cover my ears! Much louder than 115 dB, I am sure. If ADE put them in a nicer casing, and covered the electronics, it would be a good bell box.

I could do with p/t engineering staff, I don't have the time to spend 5 days a week with a novice,

So was toying with someone in p/t study

Sounds good :) Part time? I finish school in June, anyway.

there is a lot more than just a grey humming box. usually lots of exposed live busbars on the side of it that you dont want to be touching

Well, if you ignore the DANGER OF DEATH     KEEP OUT signs, you get what's coming to you.

Not even steal, or at least, just to break it open and see what's inside I guess.

Must have been boring as hell when they saw it was a big brick room with a single light, socket, alarm and big sealed grey humming box...

I bet, not worth risking their lives for. The substations here all have split and cracked CQR boxes, or Sonades. I think the cracked up old bell boxes are being replaced with the newer version of the Sonade, the Reson8
