Hello all,

Just moved into a new house. I have what looks like this alarm keypad by //.National Installer.//.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

I phoned //.National Installer.// for the pin and they want to charge me monthly to use it, I don't have the sort of money they are asking to waste!

How can I reset the keypad and put the alarm system in use? Advice appreciated...

Many kind regards,

Pietch

Hi,

The system you refer to can be defaulted by an Engineer to allow you to use it but will more than likely be configured to use remote monitoring.

it will need the code defaulting for you and the signalling deprogramming to allow it to be used "bells only"

I'd also recommend that you have it serviced to ensure it is in good working order and the batteries have been checked.

(a false sense of security is worse than no security at all)

Depending on what contract the previous tennant signed with //.National Installer.// you may find that the alarm is //.National Installer.//'s legal property so check before you fiddle with it.

post your location annd someone local should be able to help you

Hi Bellman,

The alarm was sold with the house according to my fixtures and fittings list. My father is a sparkey so he can check batteries and connections no problem. I am in St. Albans, Herts. I may just buy a new keypad for the alarm, which bit would I need to change to get it working?

Thanks again!

If you really have a Galaxy keypad there will be a Galaxy control unit somewhere hidden in your house. That's the expensive bit that will need reprogramming. The keypad is just that; a keypad. It will be wired to the main unit which, if installed professionally (and it should have been), will be somewhere reasonably inaccesssible, possibly in the loft?

The Galaxy, as a horde of people on this forum will confirm, is NOT a DIY panel; it's very good piece of professional security equipment. You WILL need a professional to reprogram it.

Howdy,

Irrespective of it being on your fixtures and fittings list, if it's under contract then it's //.National Installer.// property.

The safest thing to do would be to ring the local office and ask to be put through to credit control who can tell you if it's //.National Installer.//'s (more than likely) or the previous tennant bought it outright.

The front of the panel or keypad will have a yellow sticker on it, this will tell you the contract number so that credit control can check it for you.

As for testing, unless your Pa has all the neccisary specialist test equipment (batt discharge tester for example) he will be unable to correctly examine it for you.

No disrespect to your Pa but I have had several occations when things have gone a bit pear shaped because electricians have been fiddling with them, As was correctly stated above by Andy, there will be an endstation (big grey steel box) somewhere about the house, cellar, loft. cupboard unde the stairs? follow the wire back from the keypad till you find the endstation.

The galaxy ties some engineers in knots so It's not the sort of thing i'd recommend you try to reprogramme as a first attempt, but it is a VERY powerful and easy to use system and I STRONGLY suggest you get an experianced engineer who is familiar with the galaxy to overhaul it / service it for you.

It will require defaulting and reprogramming to allow you to use it, but BE WARNED, there are LETHAL voltages inside the panel and if you have no codes do not be tempted to remove any covers as the alarm will sound and you will not be able to silence it.

banghead This is why your local installer is always best!!

New customer vs The mighty //.National Installer.// :boxing:

As the other guys have said, if the panel hasn't been sold to the last person but only leased, then //.National Installer.// still own the kit & have the right to remove it, regardless of fittings list. It's the seller's problem to inform you if it's under a lease contract & not //.National Installer.//. Sorry. :police:

Again to add comment to the others, this kit really isn't one that you can do yourself, I can't stress that enough. Some alarm companies wont touch these panels because they don't know what they're doing with them.

Advise, you will have a yellow sticker on the main control box not keypad, the big ooofing thing hidden away somewhere). Call //.National Installer.// from yellow pages, ask for credit control, quto the number (usally starts A********) and ask if it's yours.

If so call around all the local companies in your area from yellow pages and ask them if they work on galaxy's. If so they'll know how to sort it.

If not, it may be cheaper for you in the long run having a local company to change the panel and keypad, shouldn't cost you much more than £100, //.National Installer.//'s callout will probabaly be more than this.... well it will be by the time they've fixed it!!!

Please don't be put off by our comments on here but these guys really are giving you the best help they can, they don't want to see you in trouble for playing with the big mans expensive toy.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi Chris,

I'm assuming this was a dealer fit job so there will be wires stapled everywhere :roflmao:

Oh, and Mavrick_001 the contract stickers are often found on the keypad (they are round here anyway)

Not sure about that at all. There's a long discussion elsewhere on this topic. Basically it is yours; the only redress //.National Installer.// have is against the previous owner IF he didn't own it.

If they claim to own it you could ask for it to be removed, at no charge of course, and for all your decorations, structure, etc. to be made good. Somehow I don't think they would bother.

This is irrespective,

if I sell you a car that I havn't finished paying finance on the car still is legally the finance co's property and they are fully within their rights to reposess it from you.

This is because the "title" in the goods dosn't pass to the end user but remains with the finance co. they need neither your permisson or agreement. to turn up and remove it

I have removed a few systems like this from customers premises and there is no liability back to the actual installation co for decorations.
