Optima Xm Gone Vegetable......!

Featured Replies

ey up!

I have an Optima XM installed which has been working fine for a number of years now.

A few days ago I had to turn the electric off for about 15 minutes. Since turning in back on the alarm has been completley dead - EXCEPT for a red power light.

None of the keys are working, I have taken the front off and disconnected the battery (although I suspect it may need a new battery - not been changed for a while) but to no success.

Can anyone suggest anything?

I'm in the Wigan area.

Many thanks in advance...!

Andy

Battery needs changing and your charging circuit needs checking.

If you are going to do it your self be careful of 240v turn off the supply first.

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

Needs a new battery

I live in the wigan area and would be more than happy to help you out if needed

thanks lads - most appreciated!!!!

I'm going to get a battery from the local Minster - it must be that - I've just turned the electric off again and there was nothing at all showing on the box.

cheers whistle - I'll probably give you a shout after I end up with curly hair, but thanks anyway!

ah - the plot thickens!!

if, though, when the electric was off, does this not point to the battery being dead and I need one anyway (its a good 6/7 years old). Could I not get one, try it, and take it from their?

to answera previous question, no - theres been no sound from anything.

cheers

To summarise previous posts:

- Your battery is almost cetainly dead and of no further use. Dispose of properly.

- The battery failure has PROBABLY damaged the main circuit board, very common on ADE kit (and others)

- Remove battery, turn off mains.

- If the external sounder is silent that is faulty as well; it should go off for 20 minutes

- Reapply mains power WITHOUT BATTERY. It should work, or show some signs of life.

- If it's still dead your system will need replacing, a new battery won't help (you may even destroy it too)

Them optimas are funny bleeding things with mains and batts sometimes wont work without the batt.

Maybe time to call in the whistle posse.

Do your home security a favour and get it updated cheaper than updating the home contents.

All the best Adi.

yep that makes sense!!!

I've got a red power light on now - but nothing at all when the powers off - which follows the logic.

My wifes mums friend (really!!) is an electrician and engineer so I've put a call into to him.

many thanks again though!!
