If you can get the command prompt also try a ping and tracert, e.g.

tracert www.redfoxhosting.com

ping www.redfoxhosting.com

You should (assume the internet connection is working) get something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\>tracert www.redfoxhosting.com

Tracing route to www.redfoxhosting.com [195.242.212.198]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

Had same problem not so long ago.

1) Check USB cable if you can

2) Try another USB Port

3) Check Device Manager (USB Controllers)

My problem turned out to be a power problem from my USB card. Like you I would get a connection confirm ICON but could not stream any DATA. Eventually USB card went puff and the great people at SONY took it away and replaced USB cards.

Just an IDEA.

How about trying the BT speed test site at www.speedtester.bt.com this will give a diagnostic test of your ADSL speed and store the results for further diagnostics You will need to enter speedtest@speedtest_domain in the user name of your dial up. Just use your own password. You can only USE this test with the following user name on the ADSL modem/Router. As long as the ADSL service is on a BT line (Not Necessarily the provider) you can use this test.

Another useful BT test is their local loop test page.

Log on to ADSL with user name BT_USER@STARTUP_DOMAIN, you don't need a password.

Then just open IE and try to get to any web page such as www.bt.com.

You should get a BT test page back.

This tests that your local loop and the local BT ADSL kit is working without needing to authenticate across the network to your ISP.

You can also use BT_TEST@STARTUP_DOMAIN as a logon.

Having just tried both these I didn't get any BT web page back, though I have (usually) in the past.
