Hi. My new phone line is voip so my visonic can't call me if it goes off. I found a gsm module on ebay, but the seller says that as my alarm is v.old, adding the module could damage the unit due to the power down.

I asked an installer too and he just say "at your own risk"

1/ Is there much risk of damaging the whole setup?

2/ Is there a gizmo out there which can connect to the visonic phoneline output and turn it into gsm?

Thanks

1) possibly, no guarantees your going to get it to work, all the risk of having no alarm.

2) You could try an ATA, no guarantees that will work but less chance of damaging the system.

Can't you just get a new control panel? I thought the detectors were all compatible?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Sorry for noob questions...what's an ATA?

As for control panel, I dont believe the detectors I have (around 10 years old) are compatible with new panels.

Just can't afford a big expenditure on the alarm right now...otherwise would have looked to upgrade and avoid the current issue (no phone alerts)
