Veritas R8 Control Panel

You say the wiring seems ok , have you measured it ? .Yes the wiring is a staight swop , but have you got the old pre 1999 version or later?. Have you checked the small tamper switch inside the RKP , it should click when the cover is replaced.

Deffinantly sounds like the data line is damaged. Could be the keypad, but you should check the continuity of the cable before spending any money.

Did you get the pad wet when stripping??

You mentioned earlier that when you removed mains power, the bell box sounded. This shouldn't if the battery was still connected to the panel, and the battery is healthy.

Stopping the strobe is fairly simple, but may make the system more unstable, and with a keypad that doesnt work, it may be best to leave it.

Thanks for all of this! No, I haven't measured it - I wouldn't have a clue how to! It is pre-1999 - it was installed in 1996!

As for the tamper switch clicking... yes it does. Even when it is held in, there is no response from the keypad... although when power was restored, it did make some noise...

So it sounds like a duff battery as well as a possibly faulty keypad!

Haven't got any 4-core, but I can get some and give it a try... I'll let you know how I get on!

Assuming that there is still a problem when I have recabled, I guess I am correct in assuming that a new keypad is required? Should the fact that it is a pre-'99 system make much difference?

Oh, and ideas where I can get a replacement battery?

You don't have to recable it , just link a piece in temporarily, to prove the fault.

The later panels have a modified RKP ,but can be programmed to accept on older RKP , don't know about old panel to new RKP , but I'll find out tommorrow.

Any elecrical factors should stock replacement batteries.(C.E.F. etc) about £10 ish.

I would ask around your friends , somebody must be able to recommend a local installer, your problem could have been resolved in minutes...honest guv. ;)

Tried recabling - no joy

I will hold off ordering a replacement panel until Fastcar has checked old panel/new RKP. (I REALLY do appreciate all this!).

What are the options re the strobe at the moment? As far as I can see, I have two basic options - disconnect the mains but then the bell rings - will it shutoff after 10 mins or so? Will it have any detrimental affect on the system?

Or

I get my ladders out and cover it up.

Any advice on these or other options?

Hi David, Disconnecting the terminal marked 's' on the mainn pcb should stop the strobe.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Were you steaming the paper off? If so dry the RKP gently with a hairdryer (downpowered) and do a power cycle, then just nip over to the neighbours and tell them to get a life!!
