Hello all,

I decided to sideline my other cheap PTZ (in another thread), as it's awful quality. I managed to get a secondhand American Dynamic PTZ from eBay. It's a SpeedDome Ultra 8 - 540tvl. What is puzzling me are the wires! They've all been snipped, except for the BNC. I've got a black cable with blue and brown wires inside (which must be the 24V power), and then two white cables, each with 6 wires in them:- Black, White, Blue, Yellow, Red and Green.

I'm planning to use it with my Dedicated Micros Sprite 2 (old rounded front style). Can the PTZ be used for RS-485? If so, how do I do it?

Update:- I've connected the transformer and the BNC lead and the camera goes into its 'Self Check' mode fine, and has a lovely clear picture. Now I just need some help to work out how to control it!

On the AD sticker it reads:-

P/N: 0101-0150-32

P/C: ADSDU835P

On the camera itself it says Model Number VK-654E.

Now, to show what a novice I am, what is the cable called that I need to extend these wires?

If this is too difficult then I may be tempted to pay someone to do all of this....so if anyone is in the Croydon area and is competent, let me know!

It's just 8-10 metres. I can do the BNC and the power no problem, but I'm not sure of what the main data cable is called? Also, why are there two lots of the data cables coming out of the camera? I'm guessing it's so it can be linked in series with another unit???

Some data protocols are 4 wire, ideally you want a belden cable but you could use cat 5
