The system sounds like it has not been serviced in a while and the control panel battery is faulty.

I would recommend getting an approved alarm company in to service your system.

Could the alarm go off at any time if the battery is faulty?

It is possible yes. It should definately go off outside if the mains goes off.

Is the mains supply to the alarm OK? If the power is off to the panel the Unset will flash.

Sorry, I have not got a clue, but thanks for your help. I will have to get someone in urgently as I am just waiting for it to go off and do not know where the mains/power etc is. I know, typical woman I hear you say lol
