May 5, 201115 yr comment_273108 I am trying to ressurect an Alien DSD105 DVR I have obtained, but it has no power supply. Phil at SystemQ has been trying to get one for me, but no luck so far. The problem is that it uses an unusual 4-pin connector from a 12V/60W external power 'brick' so a standard co-axial PSU won't do. Does anyone know what the pin-outs are for this connector? (or perhaps know of a power supply lying unused) Picture from the manual attached showing connector (number 13) Any help would be much appreciated. . May 5, 201115 yr comment_273110 One possible way to figure out the pins is to meter them out to known points within the DVR. For example you know the ground pin on the HDD connector, that may find you the common pins, likewise there is a 12v pin on the HDD connector and so forth. May 6, 201115 yr Author comment_273113 Thanks for that - I hadn't considered using the Molex connector. My concern was that it was a dual voltage power supply and it would be tricky to identify which pin supplied what, however, after stripping the circuit board out it was very obvious that it is in fact a single 12V supply, just doubling up the pins for supply and earth. Thanks again for your helpful comments. August 5, 201312 yr comment_337027 I think that style of PSU plug was once very common on LCD monitors. So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/31589-alien-dvr-power-supply/#findComment-337027 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 December 20, 201312 yr comment_360697 I had the same problem with a Vista DVR Monitor with built-in camera . We managed to buy a PSU from maplin ( they are not cheap on maplin .. around £50 - 60 ) . VERY IMPORTANT - make sure you check the + and - on the DVR and on the PSU before plugging in .We found out the connectors are NOT standard. In our case the psu and the screen had different pins configuration and when we connected them, the psu was shorted. Luckily the psu had short protection and we could use it after we reconnected the plug.
