Look to be fair part of the contract with an alarm company (or like ours) is not just the physical service that is carried out but on going technical support and advice when things go wrong etc. Also if any emergency call-outs are required then you should have pre-advised discount call-out charge.

If you do not take a contract then if things do go wrong and its 2 in the morning and you contact the alarm company don't expect information and advice but expect to be charged heavily if they do need to attend.

However if you don't like the feel of that particular company and definitely at this time do not want a contract then I would either advise what the others are telling you and get another panel installed but a better option would be to ask if that company will service/reset the system remove the engineer lock and default the engineer code, but ask them nicely before they attend if they are happy to do this and how much for.

I hope this helps your situation but we are not all crooks and are only trying to earn a living ourselves and provide a good service to our customers.
