Also the stuff you use on a house usually isnt upto being used on a commercial.

Just to add a bit more to what Redbull has already said....

We work closely with a number of local authorities on cctv for town centres / public buildings / schools etc....

The majority of work is on a subcontract basis. The council will have employed a specialist independent consulting company who will specialise in electrical and building systems. They will produce a specification that you will quote against. The spec will include a list of equipment you can choose. You will be required to produce quotes / method/risk assessments / insurance / accreditations etc etc

We have also had to give 5 years live expectancy on all installed equipment

I think I can safely say that the caretaker is in no position to request a cctv system and isn;t aware of the hurdles that need to be jumped to achieve his requirements. Funily enough he said the headmaster was away on holiday at the moment so I'm guessing he's making enquiries without his knowledge.

Apart from the basic technical aspects of installing CCTV on a school premises, you will need to have some fairly detailed documentation outlining the Operational Requirements for the site (and who is going to produce that ...?)

Then of course there's issues like insurance cover, not only for the individuals working on site, but also liability cover in the event that the system fails to fulfil it's stated objectives and the management decide to seek legal recourse.

I'd hate to put a dampner on it, but for this type of premises, like the other guys have already suggested, a budget of

Have you actually thought through the implications of all this?

I ask because reading your several threads, it seems you haven't a clue.

As a comparison, you say you work full time in I.T., so.

Who installs, sets up and runs your servers and network - my guess is it ain't some amateur you found on a forum who said he knows what he's doing.

I can agree with the above point, but id probably put it accross a little differnt.

I think we can all agree that this project is probably a little large for you, with your current knowledge. I think you would be better getting some experience at some smaller stuff.

As your a pro IT man, you would probably not install an IT system in this building using bottom end Tenda value switches, a pcworld pc as the server running xp pro etc etc.

Im sure people say to you all the time 'I installed my own network/server/ip phone system' etc and then say something about how great and easy it was.... but pick your brains about a problem they have.

Just approach any project as you would an IT project and think that all Kit is not the same, then you can worry about the install and support of it.
