Faulty Hard Drive

Featured Replies

Hi all

Thanks for all your advise but i need another favour same dvr i changed the dc power supply to a 12 volt 4 amp the old one was a 1.5 amp too weak to do the job hense the hdd did not kick in now all is working its recording playing back recorded stuff but it wont burn a disc it just kicks the disc out the moment i press the burn button any advise ? could i have the wrong cd disk in it ?

Help please ?

How can a 1.5 amp psu be to weak to do the job if the manufacturer built it that way.......... You need to watch out that if any problems occur with the circuits that it dosnt burn out as the fuse ratings will be based around the 1.5 psu.

It is unlikely that this machine was spec'd with a 1.5amp PSU, the hard drive alone would use most of that. Nor would I worry about the fuse ratings as electronic equipment will only draw what is required to operate, if that exceeds the factory fuse rating then there is a problem - the fuse should blow and protect the unit.

It sounds to me that the DVR is not recognising the CD, make sure you are using the correct disc type paying particular attention if it is DVD writable as many DVRs will only support + or - despite the capabilities of the writer itself.

Also noticed some drives don't like certain brands of media some do, some don't, same with CD-R / CD-RW some drives like some brands, others hate them, always best to try and get a single CD / DVD and try that before buying one of those "25/50/100" packs you see.

Hi,

Ive got the same problem....The power supply i have dont have enough power to power the HD.

If you dont mind me asking where did u get the 12volt 4 amp power adapter from?

Many thanks

You can buy them from Maplins around 40/50 or so, or on the net if you google for the model number.

This effect might be caused by a couple of things.

Most DVR's compile an "image" of the CD before it exports to disk. If the image is larger than the disk inserted, it would simply kick out the disk and wait for a disk with the required capacity.

This might sound like a silly question but I'll ask anyway... is anything (and I mean anything) already recorded to the disk your trying to burn to? Most DVRs required the disk to be completly blank.

Sounds like a great quality machine though... what is it?

Hey Ian, good to see you're still around mate, not seen you post for a while.

Hope this helps

Matt
