wilks121
mjw, You asked the difference between parallel and series. Well the difference is Alarm engineers wire door contacts in series and electricians wire them in parallel. No joke!

omega1
I seem to have opened up quite a can of worms here. After speaking to Gardtech technical it appears that the keypads can be wired directly from the keypad (parallel) The resistor can be fitted on either keypad but the one on the longest wiring run is preferable. Thanks to all who offered advice. Well done to ViperMK2 for the perfect answer. Kevin

Kevin that will work, but the intermediate keypad on the shorter run will not have any anti-tamper protection, fine for your own install but trade fitters have minimum standards we have to adhere to . in a private house if forced into a choice, i'd rather have anti-tamper on the ground floor keypad in preference to the keypad on the landing, imo simply the most likely to be attacked but usually the shorter cable run. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! arfur mo
yes and no LOL - its series because it goes to one then the other, but its parallel to the first connection LOL ( if only you knew how often me and " some friends" have the same argument)I always bring the D1 D2 back to the panel on a spare pair then take them out to the second keypad - hang over from the old days I suppose what I`m trying to work out is doing it your way ie pure parallel - is hows the keypad without the resistor tampered? you dont give it a keypad ident like the CPX actually old chaps its 'bus' wired. 'BUS wiring= method of connecting common data lines between computer processors', and before Angus starts the end station is mini computer so is the keypad so your both wrong - and so is Gardtec Technical (unusually! ) regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! arfur mo
hindsight - makes you great, eh Arf? i was waiting for someone else to state it - perhaps even you, but i gave up waiting in the end. so perhaps this old over the hill unregulated reprobate knows a lot more about wiring standards and usages than you ever give me credit for regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! arfur mo
not really - we still dont know if it will see the tamper on the unresistered keypad or not unless its been changed fairly recently in software (i've stopped using them now in favour of the cpx/G490), then no it won't on this panel, will on the cpx/490 but only if you enroll the extra keypad/s number/s regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
