To Sub Or Not To Sub?

Recommended Posts

Can someone help me please?

Several years ago i setup shop on my own and was successful for two and a half years, all but three jobs in that time were from 'word of mouth', which i am proud of.

Sadly i got stung for a rather large sum by a very slow payer.

The 'lack of money' domino affect ment i had to go back PAYE.

So, my dilema: i am considering going back alone, but as a subby rather than a buisness adventure, should i go Ltd, is there an average pay scale for subbing, i know a few companies i can contact for subbed work, but if that comes to nothing are there companies that specialise in sub contract work be it home or abroad.

I would be the first to admit i cocked up first time round and from this i can learn, hence subbing rather than head on buisness, to build up the funds and pick up more conacts.

Any constructive advice would be most grateful.

Thank you.

Ps: i forgot to mention i am multi skilled with several manufacturers (intruder, CCTV, access, pc access, door entry, automation - gates/barriers etc, some intergrated and fire, install/service/fault find and repair, oh yes, i am also a fully quallified electrician.) and have been in the industry on and off for 16 years - NACOS trained and work to NSI Gold Standards.

  • 1 month later...

Loads of places need subbies but just depends how good the jobs are they want you to do, if they offer much support when the system they have specified is wrong (or let the customer think it is your fault), how quick they pay and if they think your daily rate covers a 14 hour day..

Ive been subbying for about 8 - 9 months now its ok but you do need to move away from this and get your own work, because i started up with NO money due to being made redundant and losing a lot of money ive only just got the cash built up again and started adverttising for myself.

I would never go back PAYE again :D
