Scantronic 9651 & 9930(keypad)- Any Good?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum so please go easy on me!

I've recently taken down my old and basically rubbish Response Wireless alarm as I am fed up at its false activations and general crappiness!

So, I'm competant at working with electrics and have installed a few wired alarms before in friends houses I have now decided to install one in my home.

Recently I've been putting together a part list and have now changed my mind somewhat.

For the control panel I was originally thinking about an ADE Accenta G3 mini alarm (http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSACMG3.html) I have now been slightly swayed in favour of a Scanny and was wondering what you thought:

Yes the 6651 is a reliable panel, you may not have realised that the basic panel comes with a keypad as standard, check this with the supplier as there is no mention of this in the description.

The texecom bell box is okay as well.

What dtectors were you thinking of fitting.

Firstly, wow, thanks for your speedy reply!

Yeah, I wasn't sure if the keypad came with it, I guess I'll give them a call on Monday and find out.

Well originally I was thinking of these PIRs http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSEL100.html, but now I'm not so sure. I've found the above PIRs that are animal immune up to 100lbs animals (http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TSEL5200.html), and as I have a 40ishkg yellow labrador I will be needing some form of pet immune sensor. I've looked at providing some other detection in the rooms were the dog roams (living room, kitchen+dining room) but as the house is over 200 years old cable runs would be difficult for shock sensors and the like.

When I had the crappy wirefree response system one of the guys from response suggested sticking a small strip of special tape over the bottom part of the PIR lens, which prevented anything from say under 1 metre being detected. This worked well for the time I had the alarm.

What do you suggest for these circumstances? Ideally I would like 5 PIRs (2 being animal immune) for less than say

Its nice to hear somebody saying that, pity there is not more people like that and are intent on saving money by keeping rubbish installed.

Good choice of panel for a domestic 9651 reliable, but if you want to expand in the future it might be worth spending that little bit more on your panel, one that will take a text dialler or expandable for more circuits.

Hi guys, many thanks for your replies.

I'll do some more research and see if I can find another low priced scanny with more zones.

In the meantime, what do you recommend in the way of PIR sensors (see my above post)?

Many thanks, James

I would ideally like to lock the dog in the dining room/kitchen (rooms are connected together) but I'm fairly certain that my mum wouldn't be very happy with that. So basically I'm stuck with the dog being allowed to roam in the living room, dining room and kitchen.

I'm just wondering, would my trick with the special sticky tape work again on the botton bit of the PIR mask, which is I believe the 'creep zone' part.

And one more question, whats the general consensus of opinion on whether this 9651 (http://www.tait-components.com/ProductDetail.asp?stock_code=744651&product_class=Security&iPage=3) comes with the rkp.

Many thanks, James
