Adt 'call Alarm Co.' On Panel Display

Featured Replies

Hi,

I moved into a house with an //.National Installer.// alarm system already installed (not sure of the model number - if someone tells me how to find it I'll post it here) about 2 months ago, and about a month ago the alarm was set off when I got broken into.

Since then I haven't been able to use the alarm, all it says on the display is 'call alarm co. quote alarm code 20718'. I rang my local //.National Installer.// office and it turns out the previous occupant had some kind of maintainance agreement where he paid

If you bought the house the previous owner and/or their solicitors should have given you full details on the previous alarm service contracts, ownership/lease etc..

If you're renting the landlord has that responsibility.

So, apart from checking with //.National Installer.// you should also ask them to definitively prove the status of the alarm.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, the panel says Ademco Microtech Galaxy 8 Plus CP171 . All I'd like is to be able to use the alarm without any payment to //.National Installer.//, or monitoring/maintenance.

If I get a local installer to do it, where do I stand with //.National Installer.// if I don't own the system? Is there some way for me to get the alarm working for the time being until I get this problem sorted?

Just out of interest, when you had the breakin did the alarm prevent the intruder from taking anything?

The alarm didn't stop the //.B.W.F.// that broke in but the police did! They were here in seconds (while he was still in the house), so my 32" LCD TV was safe!

I bought the house, but I can;t rememerb if it was sold 'alarmed' ir not. If it was, I'll get on to my solicitor becasue this should have been mentioned.

Check with your solicitor, you should find that everthing that was in the house on the day of completion now belongs to you. Only exception would be if the alarm is mentioned on the deeds as having to be removed.

The alarm may well belong to //.National Installer.// in a contract with the previous owner, however it is up to //.National Installer.// to pursue the previous owner for their loss and unexpired term of the contract, //.National Installer.// would not be able to recover the alarm from you without going to court unless as i stated above provision was made in the deeds for its removal after completion of the sale.

Any expierienced engineer/company will be able to service/reprogram your system for you.

Your solicitor is the best man to clear this up.

Post your area as one of the engineers on these forums will be able to sort the system out for you.

The above shows the benefits of monitored systems over "bells only".

Hopefully you will be able to get a local approved co to take it over for you and provide yearly maintenance services.

After all, the maintenance will be less than the cost of replacement 32" LCD TV

Someone saw him breaking in and called the cops, the police weren't called by the alarm.

So it looks like I have to ring //.National Installer.// before I can use the alarm again ... there isn't a magic 'release' code or anything like that?
