  1. Ok main system bought - Elite 24-w Live, 3x QD-W PIR's (I'll be selling 2 of these in favour of wired, quads for LV room, Kitchen, Hall and landing, then DT for garage yes?), 1X contact-w (bought 2 more from Ebay @ £23 each), 2x smartkeys and a 3-W backplate which i'll also be selling in favour of the X range - unless i can get an X cover to fit this for the rear of the property. Next to buy is X-BE siren and cover, PC lead TBC depending on if i buy LAN or WIFI module, haven't found enough on Wifi module to discount it yet...considering LAN id more than double the cost. Premier Elite pad, just deciding on decore (it's with the wife!) - and i think I'll be needing some copper wire, amount TBC
  2. Just referring to something Norman had said about mounting without brackets - I assume a relative confined space like a hallway would require a slight mount on the coving to position the pir downwards? Yup I know what you mean re port forwarding - not ideal but a work around until it's worth running V4 I imagine. I've always been conscious that the app will only be as reliable as my broadband which you can expect to drop out on occasion (daily, weekly, hourly! etc) - Save from paying for proper monitoring (I'm not looking for that level in all honesty) i think we'll be ok - might actually grab a cheapo fob from the bay and give it to my youngish retired neighbour. I can't thank you enough for helping me with this - I am now trying to put the right package together to get me what i need at a reasonable cost (my installer mate doesn't deal with Texecom or a supplier that sells them). Wish me luck!
  3. I'm glad I asked, that'll definitely look a lot neater. What do you do for confined spacess? Slight tilt off the coving? Six... Thanks for all of that. In order. I'm going to leave the conservatory for now as it'll be pulled down in the next year or so for a summer room... Noted DT spec pir for the garage. Regarding setting up the forwarding for the app. Presume I can do this on the laptop? I think I'm going to go with a dummy box for the rear, stick to a couple of led alternators, battery fed to simplify. Regarding the app reliability. There's nothing I'm missing that would be more reliable is there other than gprs? Thanks Tim
  4. I did wonder as previous systems I've fitted in other houses had a bracket of some sort, however small - What do you do when coving is fitted? fit beneath the level of the coving? Reading it looks like the Comm2400 unit is for texts and data output.... use instead of wifi or LAN with the looks of things
  5. Am I right in thinking i need to purchase the Texecom brackets for the PIR's? to secure to the ceiling? I'd have thought a bracket would be supplied... Also - do you know what the com2400 is for - I'm hoping it's not yet another board that is required. Regards the app requirement - I can't really not have it as I need a remote function in case it goes off whilst at work. My pyre doesn't respond well to that type of noise and would probably become destructive given her reaction to a simple smoke alarm...
  6. Certainly seems to have, thanks mate. It won't be that difficult to cover the kitchen off. My wired pad will be in the hallway backing onto the garage wall - so i can run several cables all to the garage and into the kitchen/hall/garage PIR's quite easily, the runs will have to go along the garage wall but figure this won't be an issue, as if cut, the alarm will trigger regardless. Only leaves a downstairs toilet and conservatory vulnerable.... Throws my plan out a little regards the package so I'll need to run a few more calcs as to the best way - will probably end up banging 2 spare wireless PIR's on the bay. I also rang Texecom to confirm direct to consumer support which they are happy to do, unless I'm asking to be babysat for basic stuff, which i understand - they said that i could run 2 wired components from the pad too and program the whole lot with the PC software assuming i have the lead or LAN connector (he said LAN was worth the extra over wifi), he also mentioned that he preferred using the panel to program, and not the laptop- they also mentioned that i cannot use the app until I've updated the firmware to version 4 which may require me buying the firmware board (£20). also confirmed the X3 box and running a 2nd X3 on low power mode or reactive?...presume the output of the panel would struggle to power both otherwise.
  7. Thanks fella - there must be a huge difference in the people posting on here. I'm not saying I won't hit trouble, I would just like to know if I am flogging a dead horse or at the very least - stand a chance I'll give Texecom a call later and see what their view on support is, if i were to buy their system - as suggested above. They may be open to a degree but see what you are saying regards them not wanting to release sensitive information - I tried for my current Eurosec and failed miserably which i suppose should be telling in itself. Can you pick any holes in my shopping list - summary is PIR in garage, living room, hall and landing (wired) - door contacts front and both rear doors (1 patio) - 3 settings, full, daytime (turn off living room PIR) and night time (turn off landing and LV room PIR) Texecom ricochet kit-0003 (includes 3x pir's, 1x door sensor, 2x fobs) Elite 48w 1x additional wired sensor ACH-0001 (for landing mount) CEK-0001 Wifi module Premier elite FMK pad with recess box 2x additional wireless door contacts X3-BE fully lit siren (single piezo) wired 1x Dummy X3 with LED module (not sure if can wire or not given wire already in place, or battery) for rear of property - tempted to go for 2 wired for effect as house backs on to woods PC cable from the bay If I'm running wire to the panel then i could just as easily wire to the garage and Hall leaving one wireless PIR in LV - all door contacts need to be wireless for the near impossible cable runs Thanks
  8. In fairness though fella, you had a dig then said 'I'm not having a dig' There's no big deal. I joined as I wanted your opinions. Otherwise I would have just got on with it blindly So in answer to the above, were I able to get hold of the PC software and cable, would that make it much more doo able... Pretty sure I don't need a new module for that too do I?
  9. I'm not ungrateful James, I'm really not and I get why a small number of people react that way. Your all professionals and I'm not (in this field) which is why I'm asking you guys your opinions . My questions are just trying to gauge the feasibility of fitting these systems.. that's all I'm after. It's not a given that I'm going to try anyway.... I want to know the challenges prior to jumping in with both feet I'm guessing they will guide me towards an installer?
  10. This is why I have come to the diy section. I want advice and feel I have learnt quite a bit over the last couple of days on here thanks to you chaps - I know this is the tip of the iceburg In terms of knowledge of these systems, i promise you I'm not naive to that fact... I do however feel that some on here are hell bent on communicating that I couldn't possibly do such a thing as fit one of these systems myself irrespective of the fact that you do not know me or my experience . If it's going to be impossible for me to program a Texecom , I'd like to know - hence the questions above. What I find unhelpful is to tell me to get on with it whilst insinuating it is likely impossible.... If I'm in the wrong forum I really do apologise, I had presumed diy advice meant diy advice... Rather than giving half answers then belittling me
  11. Not to want to look like I'm jumping about here but on reflection I'm quite liking the Texecom (ricochet) X3 wired lit bell boxes and wired flush remote pads.... Very smart. Even the pirs look decent and the kits generally come with 3, I then only need to source a wired variant and two extra door contacts... Just how difficult are these to program via the panel? Is the computer software (which I imagine makes programming 000's times easier) engineer only?... The WiFi option also seems reasonable... Hopefully without the gremlins that Pyronix have?
  12. I think I 'pull it off' quite nicely ps Can't wait to get rid of the sodding thing - black is the bain of my life!
  13. You must have a few years on me as I've no idea what that is
  14. MrHappy - yes mate - I haven't been on there in ages, very good memory! What had got me was the emphasis on 'wife' - we only got married in July so I was left wondering if we knew each other! Sixwheel - It certainly seems so! I've always intended to fit my own - one because i think I can in a professional way, and two, self gratification. Fair enough if I fall flat on my face, I'll swallow my pride and pay someone to program it. I'm only questioning what a better system can get me due to others posting that I am looking at the Dacia of the alarm world - nobody has really answered what I would be gaining in a RollsRoyce considering my pretty basic requirements. What you say about the touch pads makes sense - purely aesthetics. The functions are always going to come down to a basic keypad and accompanying buttons. On another note - should we expect Texe to start charging once they have a decent proposition regards the app? Pyronix and Visonic esk....
  15. I do keep getting drawn to the Pyronix in all fairness. Coding is the only issue I'm likely to have and something i can learn/pick up whilst it's all laid out on the table. It's not that I don't want to pay to have it fitted either- It's more the benefit of having it fitted when i can quite easily put the system together myself and fit it cleanly and professionally.
  16. Scrap Visonic - £49 for a 12 months link to their servers to utilise the app....ridiculous. I know development isn't free, but at least make the cost reasonable.
  17. Thanks for the insight - Is that confirmed that they are definitely updating it? I'm still looking around - I love the optional K160 touch panel on the Visonic, fully lit shaped alarm box on the Pyronix - the app on the Pyronix and the cost of the Texecom.... I can't quite fathom how in 2016 we are still using push button alarm panels with the tech available.
  18. I've read that the Texecom is a good system but difficult to set up, hence a professional better off doing it - the costs are surprisingly lower than both the Pyronix and latest Visonic offerings which i was shocked at. I am also concerned after one of the above comments on the Texecom app which led me to the Android Appstore - the reviews of late are shocking! The HKC I can't find a cost on, presumably they prefer to only deal with trade. I'm still struggling to see what the likes of the HKC can offer me over the Pyronix for example? If it's that difficult to install and more money, then I'm likely to pay double for a professional to come into my home and drill a few holes, then program a unit for me - What will i get with the HKC fitted professionally over the Pyronix that i could fit at half the cost?
  19. Can anyone elaborate on the better systems I am discounting in the post comparison? There's a lot of noise on here about these being the bottom end of the market - curious to know what is meant by that. Wired is regarded as much better? There are wireless systems that hugely outweigh these systems features? Hybrids?
  20. Thanks HB.... Gather that is set via the panel or on the module itself? This will mean that the kit that i am looking at will have a spare wireless siren - not sure if i can fit that to the back of the house (wooded area) or if that is a bit unorthodox having a wored and wireless siren on the same system?
  21. On a further note: Do any of you kind chaps happen to know if i can hard wire a Delta X box with lightbox into the Enforcer with Homecontrol+? figure the X box will be better for strobing and the light panel will add further visibility, but with a heavy load on the batteries - and it'll be easy enough to run a line through the loft into the room where the main panel will sit.
  22. I don't disagree with what you've said in the slightest. And it's not that i don't want to be educated..... My main security is a very territorial Pyrenean Mountain dog and her side kick who is fast learning the same 'ways of the force'. everything can be mitigated by the opportunist - I'm sure her mate will succumb to a piece of steak for instance. We have a very good neighbourhood watch scheme in our village who post up regularly on the likes of Facebook should any suspicious persons or vehicles be witnessed. I also have personal experience of the CCTV not being of any use when at a previous house i had my car attacked - the video evidence, fingers prints and the windscreen/window glass in the criminals pockets! (i knew the address they were from) were not enough to prosecute apparently.... I only reused my CCTV here as it took me ages to research and buy the right gear and i didn't want it to go to waste - at worst it's fantastic for replaying people their antics from those drink fuelled summer BBQ's I can assure you though, it is fitted properly with a secure steel box anchored to an outer wall hidden in a built in wardrobe, all wires are between the joists, fused spurs - sure it could be better, linked to a cloud for even better secured storage but i'm willing to not let that bother me based on the above experience. I have my CCTV as a deterrent, I have my current alarm box which flashes only as a deterrent, my dogs are a deterrent as are the multitude of window locks, garage door dead bolts, anchors, safe, fencing, oudoor lighting etc etc.... We can only do our utmost to prevent a partially thinking opportunistic thief. However, I am here to ask about an alarm to bolster what i currently have - if I find that I cannot fit this myself then so be it. So far nobody has presented anything to suggest i can't? with that in mind i suppose the question is..... Is there a system that you guys can fit that I can't that will offer me a lot more protection over the above 3 systems as alluded to in some of the comments above?
  23. I must admit the Texecom wired looks like a lot of kit for the money - there's even a hybrid offering which will help with my door contacts. Completely understand where you are coming from regards cost as a one off - My situation is different in that the alarm is the icing on the cake, a hidden to deterrent if you will to add to my CCTV, dogs and other security measures (that lot costs a lot more than my phone). I am of the mind you will never stop an intruder who has the will to burgle - but i will make it as hard as possible for them! The opposite argument is the high tech burglar who are always going to be evolving over time - where do you stop? I personally haven't any Rembrandt's lurking around the hallway and any jewelry is locked within a secret compartment, inside a bolted down safe. Do you think the lines are blurred between what a consumer wants versus that of a commercial customer?
  24. I do love these reports that remove a fundamental point, the law of averages! I must admit though, this is pretty accurate. So do we know what a paupers Veyron looks like in the alarm world? I gather looking at the costs - Texecom fall into the same bracket as Pyro and Viso's
