  1. Buy cheap buy twice! Fitting cheap DIY systems from the limes of B&Q/Screwfix is an advertisement to the local crooks that you have **** security, why not just get a company in to quote for a monitored system therefore you can just have a wireless internal siren and a dummy on the outside but if it's from a reputable company it shows you care about securing your property, it may not cost as much as you think plus with a maintenance contract if there is any issues you have access to correctly trained engineers. Why not post your location here and see if any of the guys here could offer you a quote

    Thanks lymebayalarms appreciate your opinion!

Tbh based on looks I quite like the rapier too - the only bit that puts me off is that I think it's counterfeit (albeit a good one) - the rapier isn't screen printed, the ADT logo is clearly a sticker - not sure how it would last in the elements.... although for all I know - maybe all ADT rapiers are branded with stickers!

The ADT rapier is screen printed although many we're supplied blank mainly for some of the banks.

I would go with the rapier I think it looks a bit classier.

  3. i'm afraid i've not got a clue about installations. i'd just like to look at what hardware is available and get someone to install for me.

any recommendations of any particular systems?

I'd suggest if that's the case you just get a few quotes and go with what those companies recommend rather than what you ask them to fit! I'm sure if you put your location there maybe somebody on here who covers your area.

  4. Sorry to re-open old threads. I've since sent the panel back to the ebay seller and got a refund, then been out and got one from a reputable wholesalers but are still getting similar problems.

All seemed to be good up until I connected power for 5 PIRs. However, now the symptoms are slightly different.

I connect the battery - if I leave it at that all is good for a few minutes or so, after a few minutes the screen does turn off. Also if I try to exit engineer mode the display will turn off immediately.

It seems to be when the panel is checking for the presence of a battery (as it would periodically and when exiting engineer mode) is when it causes it to turn off.

    Any ideas?

Have you definitely connected the battery leads to the correct connection on the panel marked up as batt and not connected to the normal 12vdc output, failing that possibly you have a load of duff batteries, have you checked the charging voltage and current?

  5. Hi all, been for a interview this week for a recently established co, previous firm was liquidated, Just they want me too use my own car for a trial period before getting a van on a 3yr lease just incase it doest work out i got to be right for them and they got to be right for me then there stuck with a van, but woudnt the next engineer comes along use it, its just got me thinking allsorts, Ive known apprentices that get given a van no problem.

I know what my answer would be and it would end with 'off' but if you do decide to take up the offer make sure you tell your insurance company as chances are you're not covered for business use if it's a private car.

  6. Anybody got a decent service checklist i can have a look at for cctv / access. Just in the middle of rewriting ours for, so far intruder has been cut down to 12 points which is now going to be cut down to 11 as i think the last two are the same question.

    Fexible?

  7. The only way you will get an alarm for that cost is to look for a company that fits them cheaper but locks you into a monitoring/maintenance contract, other than that the Yale route is about your only option but don't expect to get much advice about that kind of system on here as this is a forum for professional installers.

  8. Hi. Need some help please. My Galaxy G2 alarm keeps triggering since early hours of this morning. Just started again at midnight even though the system isn't set. The Mk7 keypad display just shows ********* so I can't disable the alarm. Can anyone please advise as we can't get an engineer till morning and the alarm keeps waking my children & neighbours! Thanks.

Do you know when the battery was last replaced? I have seen a cooked battery drag the system down like that.

If the service provider is not responding I would suggest looking for a better one, there are plenty of companies who are able to maintain that system.

  9. Hey guys abit of an update

Went to the control panel and was getting 4v between r- and positive. Went up to the bell box the lid was on OK took the lid off pressed the tamper in and nothing between r- and positive. Checked to see what was between red and black at the bell box nothing but as I was pressing the probes into the terminals the bell box started beeping and strobe was flickering ( strobes never been on before) played with the terminals abit and now it's working fine. When I connected the cables into the terminals they slightly spun round so this may be the problem but all working OK for now.

I would say you have slightly damaged the solder on the connection block or have a dry joint. Maybe wise to remove the pub and check/repair the solder to avoid future faults.

  10. Discussion on a FB group at the moment. It's a closed group but no questions are asked when signing up. Someone asked the question wether it was right or not for people to be sharing out engineer codes as freely as has been happening. Seems to be some mixed responses. I know my opinion, just want to get people's responses on here. What is the legality involved in a group like that?

What's the name of the group?

  11. If your maintenance company can't default and reprogram a G2 / 20 you need to find a new maintenance provider that can.

My thoughts exactly, it's not the toughest panel to default also why do they need the engineer code to program fobs? Unless the master code has been lost but if it's residential chances are they only have 1 code

  12. I'm trying to solve the problem of our Risco Novagard 4 not having any flashing LEDs.

Is it possible that Risco started making the Novagard just as a plastic housing without any components in at all and companies would have to put in a siren, strobe and tamper? Or did Risco Make it as one whole bell box with all the electronics fitted?

    Thanks

More than likely as a dummy or decoy box, it would look identical but would be empty inside

  13. That's a perfectly fair opinion :)

It's why I'm asking for advice on a good fitter in the area too. I'll see if I can find the websites you mention and see if they suggest anyone.

Unfortunately cant help with that as im in Cardiff but you should find them on the websites or maybe another member in here will be more local to you
