  1. I'm not sure what's going on at the moment, but certainly seeing Honeywell systems with some issues.  Perhaps the Honeywell has tighter parameters for RF noise triggering a Jam.  I believe it's a 3 minute period of signal jam that constitutes a jam tamper.  I am not sure what the protocol does underneath that as far as signal levels Etc, but there's no real way of preventing the tamper at the panel side when the RF portal is fitted.

If this does have something to do with mobile comm's (speculation at the moment), then it could mean trouble ahead...    I really hope not.

We've had a couple of issues with devices being jammed and it turned out to be ***** duracel batteries with a low O/P!! When batteries changed for GP cells the units performed fine!!

  2.  No idea where the 5 minutes comes from,

Our sales guy was told about the five minutes thing by a Texecom tech last week, apparently its to stop someone setting their alarm from their phone (when there away) if there is someone still in the house moving around.

My bad, he told me this morning its an app update rather than panel  firmware.

  3.  No idea where the 5 minutes comes from,

Smartphone stuff does comply with the standards, it does not have to comply to NSI, They don't make the rules, they just inspect too the standards we all use. No idea where the 5 minutes comes from, the only requirement is to sound internal sounders for the exit duration when arming remotely, and to log who used a remote device. Previous firmware would remote arm instantly which could cause false activations if someone is still in the building. Highly unlikely in my opinion, but it could happen.

Firmware was launched last week that allows the required capability. Thing is everybody expects anything electrical they buy to have an app, whether they use it or not is a different matter. Its all part of the buying decision and not having it seems to most to be a negative.

I have been testing our system for years now, never once armed the system with my phone except during testing. I use a fob as its on the keys I will use to lock the door and open the car. Notifications are useful when i am working away, at least i know if the last one out of the house has actually armed the system.

  4. I'd actually argue they want smartphone more than IP signalling, but Enforcer can take a Webway Nano, as can Texe, so it's way behind the curve.

Just fitting an iOn 40 today which will go straight onto Webway.

But the smart phone stuff doesn't conform to NSI, Texecom are doing a firmware update that doesn't allow setting if there's been activity on a zone within five minutes of you trying to set the system from your phone so what's the point of that you may as well prox out as you go, don't get me wrong I love tech, but IP intruder alarms are a bit of a turn off for me and I can't really see it as a selling point for new systems other than for notifications, but what do I know I thought EBay was gonna be a flash in the pan!

  5. 16 is a dinosaur, you can't update it and you can't add IP type signalling unlike every other model.

Amazed it hasn't been replaced by an 'ion 20' with the same serial port as the rest and a couple of wired zones

Before anyone says 'and 2 way wireless', agreed, but the stupid thing is, it's been 2 way capable since launch.

The fools just haven't released any non-control type 2-way devices for it other than (recently) a smoke alarm.

But how many customers want IP smartphone etc etc anyway, most want a system that detects an intruder and makes a row when it does!

  6. unswitched socket, plugged in g2 is ok, g3 needs tool to remove power

question, how does your car work in this regard. same key that opens it allows you to move it?

Yep and everyone has their car key on their keyring that has the house keys and the alarm fob on. So the thieving twats get a vehicle thrown in to remove their ill gotten gains!!!

  7. Beldon if the panel/controller has no opto isolation like the Northern/Honeywell N1000 II's and IV's and the new (for me :- ) net axs panel, also the RBH Axiom stuff between the NC 100's and RC2's, ACT recommend UTP, so it all depends on which system your fitting.

  8. Business is very good I purchased an established NSI Gold co which gave me a sort of head start, though it was very poorly when I got it. Kit has jumped leaps and bounds it does the same stuff but much better for less cost in most cases. It is a small world in this industry though, every time I go to IFSEC I bump into someone or other I have seen for 10 or more years.

Im looking forward to IFSEC, there even doing it in London these days so no slog up the M40.

  9. Long time no speak, it must be 15-16 years at least Ive had my own co for the last 13.5 years

I was made redundant in 2000 when Northern was purchased by Honeywell, so yeah at least 15 years, theres an awful lot thats changed in that time especially with the rise in popularity of wireless stuff, but I'm loving the new IP cameras/software thats come about. The image quality is superb compared to the old cv equipment that was around back then. So you have your own company, I hope its going well, starting your own business is a lot of work but also a lot of fun and the rewards can be good if your lucky and put the hours in.

I spoke to another blast from the past earlier on in the year when i had to call Honeywell tech about a Maxpro NVR, turned out it was Peter Wilkinson who id helped out on a project in Leeds back in 98, he also remembered the long hair and the fact i support Preston North end!!!  :proud:

  10. Hi Pete I think I remember you from the Northern Computer days do you remember coming to the university of Brighton?

Yes that would have been me, Swift, Secom, MFRS or SPE??? or non of the above??

    Hes not that old

    Hes not that old

He is but he doesn't look it!! ;-)

  11. Afternoon fellow security doods and doodettes. My names Pete though most peeps call me Flossy or Floss, I worked for an integrated security company in south east London in the nineties, then a CCTV company in Manchester for a couple of years, then spent three years as a Techy for Northern Computers in Crawley. I left the industry in 2000 and opened a Guitar shop in Orpington. Now after a gap of 15 Years I'm back working for the company I worked for 20 years ago!!  :proud:

  12. I'm a big fan of Hikvision cameras - very good value for money. Find samsung to be over priced.

Only thing with Hikvision is they discontinued a lot of models in the last year and started replacing them with more expensive "upgraded" versions. I guess they are just doing what many manufacturers do. But their cameras are very good - we've been using them for years and have never had any problems. Make sure you get them from a reputable seller thought, or you might end up with a Chinese version of the interface.

I belive a lot of manufactures have been discontinuing/upgrading models to make them onvif compliant.

+1 for the Dahua/Qvis cameras, have 1 150 camera install with Exacqvision and another with 28 on Qvis Terminator NVR, both fit and forget with fantastic image quality.
