1) er - not with mine you couldnt,(locked codes etc etc) fact is you`ve had a system proffesionaly installed, there are actual and implied warrenties and insurance (mine - I dont give a fig about yours) requirments to comply with. If you want to add to the system then thats your right, but you wont get it via my engineer code and you would have to resume full responsibilty for the system

the best I would do (for a small charge - as detailed in our terms and conditions ) is return the panel to " as new" settings.

Its all for your own SECURITY - nothing sinister

as angus has stated the system is installed by a proffesssional by the looks of it, so therefore the system has been installed originally to certain standards, if we didnt put a code in to protect certain parts of the proramming and you decided, 'oh im going to put another PA in the bedroom just in case' and you ended up messing the programming up completely and the alarm system then did not trigger if an intruder broke into your property, due to wrong settings been programmed, you would have no-one to blame but yourself because it had been tampered with by yourself and not the original installer, If you then decided oh im going to go back to original installer and try and get them involved they would just say ''you have tampered and added to system without our permission or knowledge therefore warranties are null and void'' you as a customer would not be very happy at that. :rolleyes:

This is why proffesional engineers that install alarm systems always change the codes from factory default to their own codes and WILL NOT give that code out, IT IS THERE TO PROTECT BOTH THE PANEL AND YOU THE CUSTOMER.

now if they changed the user code and didnt tell you what that user code was then thats different but the installation company has every right to put their own ENGINEER code into the panel.

I would also say that if you asked the original installer to put the code for engineers programming back to factory default then you would probably have to sign a docket to say that installation company was no longer responsible for that alarm system and that any problems WHATSOEVER with the system are not the companies problem. and WOULD be chargable.

As the owner, being prevented from adding to or altering the system. p.s I am a qualified electrician/electronics engineer, I could always do a hard reset but dont want too.

yes you could try a hard reset BUT if the panel engineers code has been LOCKED then doing a hard reset in that cercumstance would NOT get you very far as the code would still be the same code as engineer left it with, so therefore you would render the panel unsuable not a good idea imo

Could do that myself, No charge. or do you think I am a fool, rather than pay you I would sooner buy a new PCB

er - no you couldnt, not with my panels to be honest I dont think your a fool but do think your only here for the arguing, sort of guessing you`ve got an issue with your alarm company - what did you do, tamper somthing and not want to pay for the callout?

The engineering information states if the system is reset it restores factory defaults?!!!!! no default info please

tbh mate can you fook, they are now a ungraded DIY panel and i can't belive trevor is fitting them.

How long ago was it fitted?

LOL who is Trevor and what did he try and charge the O/P?

can you lock an optima?

i would have thought you could tbf ive never installed optima c**p so i wouldn't know but i do know most panels have the ability to lock engineers code, imo a good security feature.
