Hey all,

Ive got a customer with a british gas alarm box which isnt working from down on the ground, ive checked it has been wired in which it has so i assume its time for a battery replacement.

Ive never used a british gas bell box before so am wondering if the batterys i use will work with it, ive attached a picture below. They are 2 1/4" tall x 1"Diameter and are Ni Cad at 8.4 volts intended for SAB.

One way to find out.... Get you ladder out!!

If not, it is probably time for a bell upgrade anyway - don't you want your own bell up there?

I just wondered first as i wont be going there again till monday and thought i could find out before i go again rather then adding more ladder runs to the equation.

Yeah i would want my own bell but not all take overs i do i change the bell. Depends on the location and if id benifit in that area

Are you sure its not a dummy box and that there is an internal sab!!

British Gas generally monitored with dummy box.

Yes my first impression was monitored with internal SAB and dummy on front and back.

Internal SAB working fine but apparently, according to home owner, there is a wire leading to the bell box in the loft. As i say, i havent been there for very long, only a few minutes the other day to stop a warning problem for them and will be doing a take over on monday.

arent the Britsh Gas boxes Novagard Deltas ?? just trying to picture one in my head, if it is and it isnt a dummmy you should be able to swap out the nicad.

They are Deltas. Round my area the front box is live with a dummy at the back.

I had one ringing in my ear back last year and couldnt see a terminal to remove the battery from the sounder so after a bit of a panic I just put the cover back on. Dont forget theres a 1k resistor across the 12V+ and trigger if you have problems. Not sure whether its built into these sounders or whether its just simply placed in the internal sounders.
