Gardtec 593/595

Hi,

The missing components I referred to at the beginning of this thread are two surface mount transistors (T31 and T34 I believe), the pads of which are located on the LHS of the board near the main connector.....a 'T1 type' and a 'U1 type'.

The absence of these effectively removes the ground return path to the battery.........which isn't too clever.

It IS possible to replace these yourself but you'll need a needle-point iron, good eyesight and and very steady hand!

As I said, I don't think that many boards 'got out' but if you come across this one you'll know why.

Hi

spirochete just took delivery of the 595 with bigger psu and battery space what a beast of a case

Hi ToeNee,

Sorry for not replying.......had a few days away.

You must have the large one of the 3 versions of the 595, (from what Gardtec tell me):

1) Plastic cased

2) Metal cased - room for a 7AHr batt./1.2 amp PSU,

3) Metal cased - room for a 17AHr batt / 2 amp PSU...........

(In the case of the last one, you can probably jump-start the car in an emergency!)

I think the 3rd one (2amp) is a good move if there are a lot of current draining attachments in the installation. Very easy to creep up to 1amp or over......e.g.

RKP & panel (idling) 150mA

PIRs (typically) 20mA each

Typical Bellbox 50mA idle, 400mA on SAB (each) (not too keen on SCB)

Dialler if you have one ...100mA

etc etc.....soon adds up!

Some interesting notes in the latest Engineers Addendum on battery rates / charging / battery savers for the various grades of system.

Anyway.......hope you can find a bit of wall big enough!
