Guest add
Hi, I was just wondering what the security was like on wireless CCTV cameras, and also wireless burglar alarm systems. Seeing as they are not hardwired I would assume that it is easier to disarm them without authorisation than if they were? Thanks in advance, Adam Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/9383-wireless-camera-and-alarm-integrity/ Share on other sites
Ard Disk
Wireless CCTV found in Diy retailers stores have little security apart from the fact that the battery will run flat overnight, and the radio power is so low that it cant be received anywhere beyond the front gate (without directional antenna, as used in the hobby of Wardriving). On Burglar alarms: Some cheap DIY systems boldly state: Approved to MPT 1357 or Home Office approved, or RA approved - this just means that their transmission power is not on an approved security frequency, but is so low on power that the Radio Agency dont care. It doesnt mean its secure at all. BS 6799 was the British Standard detailing how secure a real Wireless burglar alarm is. Class 1 is the lowest. It would make a passable DIY system. Professional alarm companies install minimum Class 3, for bells only systems, and Class 6 for monitored police calling systems. Class 6 (now PD6662) is usually on 868/869MHz. In Class 6 and all the latest "European" standard PD6662 radio systems, each device reports back to the control panel every few minutes, to say "I,m working, still within range, I havent been tampered, the battery is fine and I have no alarms to report." The codes have millions of differs. The latest professional kit is secure, quick to install, reliable, easy on batteries (mostly 3yr lithium) and easy to use. We use Risco Gardtec G595 Hybrid, with built in Modem + Speech dialler. Guest
The diy wirefree kit is not so secure, not important if your using it to keep an eye on your car, very important if your using it to keep an eye on the aupair in her bedroom (your not allowed to do that by the way I was using it as an example). petes au pair last seen running down the drive with suitcase with a disgusted look on her face.. Guest Rockford
Hi, I was just wondering what the security was like on wireless CCTV cameras, and also wireless burglar alarm systems. Seeing as they are not hardwired I would assume that it is easier to disarm them without authorisation than if they were? Thanks in advance, Adam Well we have used wireless cameras which use a baseband 2.4GHz transcieve. We notice that it knackers nearby wireless networks (because its baseband). In theory, it would be possible to scramble the signal quite easily and I also am concerned about the transmit security... I think it'd be quite easy for someone to watch them with a small amount of "technology"... Guest frosted
THOU what comes to any wireless **** they are completely ca.. in sense of security --> My absolute NO for wireless gear! this is repeat on another thread but surly using wireless IT technology and ip ing the cameras using conversion blocks this resolves most of the issues? mac adress and wep is pretty damn secure.
