Services.exe At 100%

Featured Replies

I've updated everything, Windows is patched, AdAware\SpyWareBlaster\Hijack This\CWShredder\AV scan etc... all come up clean (AFAICT).

Slightly anoying thing is SERVICES.EXE runs up to 100% every few minutes for 60 seconds or so, it's driving me insane! Any ideas or tools out there to analyse it a bit further? Can't see anything wrong atm. :hmm:

The services.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, services.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.

Basically, it's Windows. Pretty ambiguous, and not much use for troubleshooting (typical Windows rubbish). SERVICES.EXE handles all running processes that makes windows work.

Type services.msc into the Run box and that's what it is. :)

Hmm, annoying! I knew it wasn't a non-proper SERVICES.EXE but unfortunately the neuber doobrie is no more specific, just says SERVICES.EXE is using pretty much 100% CPU.

No idea then, time for some :smash:

Could possibly also be a W32 virus or a load of rubbish in the registry - try regsupreme pro 30-day trial to clean the registry.

I'm post SP4 here so that should be sorted. There's a couple of other MS KB's that say things about SERVICES.EXE at 100% but they have all been attended to in previous service packs.

I'm wondering if it's the hosts file causing this as it has recently grown to a fair size, although this has happened before that was done but it's become more frequent since. :hmm:
